Teams from all over the Heart Of America region descended on the Davies Volleyball Complex to compete in a 17U Power League Prequalifying event on January 6.

I scouted three matches in Pool 2 and Pool 1.

Here is a look at prospects who stood out in the [program_tooltip program_id='430200' first='KC' last='Power']'s 17-2 two-set win over Tamales 17-1. It was the second match of the day for both teams in Pool 1 play.

[player_tooltip player_id='515585' first='Malasy' last='Sakounlaphoum'], 5'5”, L, Olathe East, ‘25

I enjoyed how this young lady played. She has a calm frame when receiving the ball. She also has a knack for making solid passes on out-of-system balls. The Olathe East prospect finished with five assists, 10 serve receptions, and six digs. She has hard line drive serve and finished with an ace in the win.

[player_tooltip player_id='515580' first='Marlie' last='Fanning'], 5'5”, S, Leavenworth, ‘25

I saw Fanning play for the Pioneers during the high school season and she continues to improve her game. She will benefit from playing on a competitive club team. She shared setting duties for the Power and collected seven assists and three digs against the Tamales.

Alex Huffmire, 5'10”, OH/MH, St. James Academy, ‘25

Huffmire is one of three interesting front-row players for the Power. All three of them are similar in height and physical build. All three could be powerhouses if they commit to improving their upper body strength. Huffmire finished with two kills for the Power.

[player_tooltip player_id='515589' first='Claire' last='Affield'], 5'10”, OH/MH, Olathe Northwest, ‘26

Affield is the second tall hitter for the [program_tooltip program_id='430200' first='KC' last='Power'] squad. She finished with one kill, one block, and one dig. The Olathe Northwest Ravens were loaded with Division I talent this past fall and Affield does not appear on that team's Max Preps page, so I am guessing she played junior varsity ball last season. She was also playing up so she has two seasons of high school ball left.

[player_tooltip player_id='515567' first='Lauren' last='Edeal'], 5'11”, OH/RS, Shawnee Mission West, ‘25

Edeal collected one block and two kills in the victory over the Tamales. She is the tallest player on the Power roster and shared front-row duties with Huffmire and Affield. All three prospects are interchangeable and right now I would project them as NAIA-level players. I hope I get to see this team play later in the season, as I want to see how they continue to evolve.
