The teams that succeeded featured difference makers in the middle. Here are players at the position that stood out:
Hannam is an important piece for a Six Pack squad with significant upside. She provides a stabilizing force in the middle of the net, capable of denying opponent attacks and also ripping balls back at the opposition. She’s a really good athlete with sharp volleyball skills. She’s steadily improving each time I scout her in person. That’s helped her play more aggressively.
Brandmeyer stands out for her versatility in playing well across all of the front row positions. Her length and athleticism shines through at the net whether she’s swinging with authority or serving as an obstacle for the opponent’s attack. She sees the play developing and puts herself in spots to deliver for her team. She fits in really well with this Iowa Power squad.

Passmore sticks out as another versatile playmaker. The Linn-Mar star is surrounded by top talent on this Adrenaline outfit and does a nice job manning the middle while also helping out elsewhere across the front row. She’s an exceptional athlete with explosion off the floor and a powerful swing. Her defense continues to improve with better timing and ability to follow the other team’s system clearly. She’s also a good teammate that brings positive energy to the court.
The PowerPlex performer possesses a full range of skills scouts like to see from a middle hitter/blocker. Her long arms and athleticism play very well at the position. She marries her natural gifts with a solid feel for the game and excellent court awareness. The best news is that although Hanfelt is very productive and accomplished already, she’s not near hitting her ceiling as a volleyball player. Iowa State fans should be excited for the future.

Callie Huber
Callie Huber
It was my first time watching Huber in person. She caught my attention quickly into the match with her excellent feel for the game. Huber understands what she can and can’t do, playing within those parameters with a high level of efficiency. The Mid-Prairie and Rockets standout sees the court really well, allowing her to direct her attack to openings in the defense. She defends the net well with precise timing.
Galbraith holds down the middle for a talented Iowa Select squad, standing out as a two-way player. On offense, she explodes off the floor quickly with a whipping swing that overwhelms the opponents before they can react. Galbraith reads the defense well, consistently finding holes in which to hit. Her positive traits work well when she’s defending at the net, too. Terrific timing with long arms make her difficult to get around.

Sloan teams with Hanfelt to give PowerPlex a relentless pair in the middle. There’s no break for opponents with this dynamic duo. Sloan excels in the center of the net but her athleticism and versatility allow for swings from other positions. She defends well thanks to those assets, long arms and quick-twitch tendencies. It feels like there’s special upside here.
