Those who did rise in the rankings did so after making significant contributions to their high school team as frosh. Below are the talented athletes who took a bit of an upward climb.
For the high school season the biggest question was what position she was going to play. For club she played up for Metro and suited as a libero. For Madison they chose to have her hit outside. In the end she became one of the more potent attackers on a team that got to the semifinals of the state championship. Even as a frosh Laila was one of the team captains and was usually identified as the floor captain. That defines leadership. Laila got voted to the Concorde District first team and earned a spot on the Class 6 state second team. She reminds me a lot of Mailinh Godschall now with Metro 18, who hit outside for her Centennial high school team to lead them to a Maryland state championship this year and suits up as a libero for Metro. Laila jumped from 4 to 3 in this 2027 class.

Hunter got tasked with playing middle for Flint Hill, where state championships are expected. She suited up in the Husker green and came through for them, plugging up a critical middle spot that had been left open because of graduation. Warming up you would think she was a college player as hard as she hit the ball to the floor. She finished with the third best hitting percentage on the team and second in blocks. Her ultimate contribution were the nine kills in the VISAA championship match against Bishop O’Connell. Hunter moved from 9 to 4 in the ranking.

Caycee was tasked with setting for Chantilly, who had thoughts of competing for a state championship with Lameen Mambu Lameen Mambu 6’0″ | OH Chantilly | 2025 State #64 Nation VA hitting outside. While Caycee was the primary setter for the Chargers they fell short of making it to the state championship, losing to eventual state champion Langley in a regional match. Caycee did her part. Her performance as a setter earned her a spot on the Concorde District first team. She ranks as the top setter in a class that appears to carry a number of talented setters. Caycee jumped from 10 to 7 in the 2027 rankings.

Jasmin becomes the fourth Metro player to jump up in the 2027 rankings. She played for a smaller school St. Pauls Girls so it was not her high school play that allowed her to stand out. Jasmine impressed with her performance at the Prep Dig 250 Expo Showcase. Playing against older competition she appeared unfazed, blocking and hitting as if she were one of the veterans on the court. She climbed the ladder from 15 to 9.
As a younger plyer I was always impressed with her athleticism. Her mechanics were still a bit rough with balls sailing 15 feet out after one of her hits. Her setting location was also a bit raw though her hands were fine. It was the consistent location that was always off. She has made a lot of progress since those younger days. She was the primary setter for Dominion, moving quickly to the ball and consistently jump setting whether she was front row or back row. Her setting got her selected to the Dulles District. second team. Ingrid made the biggest climb of all the ranked players, rocketing up from number 31 to 15.
