The first stop was held in Dallas, TX this weekend. I was able to attend this prestigious event and this next series will be about those players who stood out while I watched their matches in person. I spent most of my time watching the Invitational tournament, which was riddled with Open level talent. There were teams that traveled from Utah, Georgia, California, and Hawaii to compete with our Texas teams. Without further ado, let’s see who stood out on each team.
Madfrog 15 National Green
The tournament got off to a wonderful start on Saturday and finished Sunday evening. It was meant to end on Monday but the freeze halted the event and no one was able to finish the tournament. Even with no true champion crowned, we were all still able to see some awesome volleyball. Madfrog 15 National Green showed some amazing heart as they battled well throughout the entire tourney. The following players are who stood out to me when I watched them play.
Audree Hughes Audree Hughes 6'0" | OH Southlake Carroll | 2027 State TX [2027] 5-11 Outside (HS: Southlake Carroll/Club: Madfrog /Verbal: Uncommitted)
Audree is currently an unranked prospect in the 2027 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings, but that is only because they have not been released yet. She plays at Southlake Carroll High School and also the nationally recognized Madfrog volleyball club. Miss Hughes is a very talented point scoring left side attacker. If you do not have a solid two blocking system set up perfectly on her, she will make you pay big time. Her arm can unleash a ton of power behind it and she has full control of where she delivers the ball. What makes her very special is how she gets to a deep touch point and speeds up her approach to create a lot of momentum. As an attacker, her power is immense as she swings for the fences. On a team of stars, hers shines very bright and we are going to be watching her closely this season. I think she has what it takes to make the state rankings with what I saw from her overall game. From the service line she sends over a powerful and accurate ball and plays well from middle back. Give her a look and you will see someone who will be a top prospect in a few years.
Siena Ebert Siena Ebert 5'10" | DS/L The Hockaday | 2027 State TX [2027] 5-10 Libero (HS: Hockaday School/Club: Madfrog /Verbal: Uncommitted)
Siena is currently an unranked prospect in the 2027 Class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings, but that is only because we have not released them yet. She plays at The Hockaday School and also for the awesome Madfrog volleyball club. Miss Ebert is a taller libero than you will see on any other squad. This is extremely helpful to her ability to touch volleyballs that would normally be outside of a smaller libero’s range. While most would think that this length would hurt a libero’s posture and ability to dig balls by the floor, Siena makes it look super easy as she has a lot of dexterity in her lower body toward both sides. From what I saw with her skills on the volleyball court, she is in the running for one of the best liberos in her age group. Madfrog as a club has the reputation for developing some high level defenders for the next level and this young lady is just another prodigy from their awesome coaching. You rarely see her heels hit the floor when she is moving on the court and this is the secret to her magic.
Vanessa Glenn Vanessa Glenn 5'8" | OH Southlake Carroll | 2027 State TX [2027] 5-8 Outside (HS: Southlake Carroll/Club: Madfrog /Verbal: Uncommitted)
Miss Glenn is currently an unranked prospect in the 2027 Class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings, but that is only because we have not released them yet. Vanessa plays at Southlake Carroll High School and also for the nationally recognized Madfrog volleyball club. Watching her play the position of outside hitter throughout this tournament showed me that she is well beyond her years. Her game can best be described as an old soul. There are not many holes in her game as she possesses the full package that you would want in any volleyball player. She can pass, dig, serve, set and hit at a very high level. Ball control is the name of the game and she has it. While she might not be as tall as others in the position, she truly flies high and rips the ball well. While this is a team sport, there are certain players that could be described as the glue that holds everything together and that is what I see from Miss Glenn when she is on the court. We will be keeping our eye on her and you should also.
While I only wrote about three players extensively, there were some others who also did very well when I watched. Both middles on this team are extremely dynamic, super fast laterally and toward their setter when attacking. They can both block well over the net with the length they possess. Mackenzie Ratcliff Mackenzie Ratcliff 5'10" | MB RICHARDSON | 2027 State TX and Isabella Howard Isabella Howard 6'1" | MB John Paul II | 2027 State TX are two names that we will have on the State Rankings when they get released. They played extremely well in the two matches I watched. Outside Hitter Kaylie Davis Kaylie Davis 6'0" | OH Independence | 2027 TX is a phenomenal scorer for this squad. She has a lot of length and can bang. Setter Dakota Richard has a lot of length also and is a true threat on the court. I loved how she played and moved the ball around. This team, when they get rolling, can play with a lot of fire against anyone in the country. They will be a scary match up in qualifiers.
