The first stop was held in Dallas, TX this weekend. I was able to attend this prestigious event and this next series will be about those players who stood out while I watched their matches in person. I spent most of my time watching the Invitational tournament, which was riddled with Open level talent. There were teams that traveled from Utah, Georgia, California, and Hawaii to compete with our Texas teams. Without further ado, let’s see who stood out on each team.
Wave 16 Scott
I was eagerly anticipating watching this team in action for the first time this season. They went 3-3 overall and faced some really amazing competition. Every single player battled and never gave up in two matches I watched from them. The following players are who stood out to me when I watched them play.
Finley Krystkowiak Finley Krystkowiak 6'3" | OH Torrey Pines | 2026 State CA [2026] 6-3 Outside (HS: Torrey Pines/Club: Wave/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Finley is currently ranked as the 6th best overall prospect in the 2026 class according to our Prep Dig California State Rankings. Miss Krystkowiak stars for Torrey Pines High School and for the WAVE Volleyball club. Here is a little from the last article I posted on her, “Her star is definitely on the rise as she has been making waves as a pin attacker on her varsity squad. She is no newcomer to anyone who has followed their team since she stepped foot on their campus last season. But she has gotten so much better hitting at a .291 clip, which is very efficient. Her 387 kills lead the state in her grad class. The San Diego native is astonishing as a finisher above the net. Her arm swing is still super fast despite its length. This young lady has been going toe to toe with some of the best upperclassmen that the state has to offer and she is more than holding her own averaging double digit kills each match.” When I arrived to their court this past weekend, there were a lot of people watching the matchup and I could easily see why. Finley is the star of the show on this squad and the offense definitely flows through her. Armed with a golden right arm, she slices through defenses like a knife through butter. It is not a matter of if she will score, it is only a matter of how much she will score. Miss Krystkowiak showed everyone in Texas why she is ranked as one of the top outsides in her grad class.
Catherine Beadles [2026] 5-9 Setter (HS: JSerra Catholic/Club: Wave/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Catherine is currently an unranked prospect in the 2026 Class according to our Prep Dig California State Rankings, but is now on my official watch list with what I saw from her play. She plays volleyball for JSerra Catholic High School and also plays club for the WAVE volleyball program. It was such a nice surprise to see the explosiveness in her release, especially from her back set. The ball explodes out of her hands so fast on its way to her teammate on the opposite position. Not many can pull off a feat like this so effortlessly, but Miss Beadles makes it look easy. She has an excellent frame that makes her a viable threat to play in the front row if needed from any squad. I love how she uses some awesome fast-twitch muscles to play defense and release from right back. Her footwork is what truly stands out to me as I watched her move to the ball. As a setter, her posture is something that I marveled at for a while during her play. She kept the same posture throughout each set location and that will definitely keep defenses guessing and not cheating toward a certain attacker.
Presley Thompson Presley Thompson 5'5" | DS/L La Costa Canyon | 2026 State CA [2026] 5-5 Libero (HS: La Costa Canyon/Club: Wave/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Presley is currently ranked as the 8th best overall prospect and top libero in the 2026 Class according to our Prep Dig California State Rankings. She plays volleyball for La Costa Canyon High School and also plays club for the WAVE volleyball program. It was such a joy to watch Miss Thompson this past weekend because she is one of those can’t miss prospects that just put on a show. Her defensive exploits against some of the top attackers in the state of Texas were legendary. I witnessed her use every inch of her body to keep the ball alive during some long rallies. Some players just have that extra gear that they can turn on when they need to and that is exactly what Pres does. Her platform has ball magnets inside of her skin or something because she is always in the right position to play it after it is attacked by her opponent. The one aspect that I truly love about her play is how she is able to dig balls well outside of her normal range. She is able to create and utilize momentum very well with her lunge dig outside of her midline. Even for balls that look like they are not attainable, Pres is able to push off and extend her arms in order to keep the ball from hitting the floor. This is why I have her ranked as the best libero in her class.
This team was so scrappy and full of fire when I watched them ball. They definitely play for each other and it shows in every rally. While they might not be the biggest team across the entire roster, they make up for it with awesome timing, and a fire that won’t quit. Other players who showed really well were setter Soraya Dennis Soraya Dennis 5'8" | S SageHill | 2026 State CA , who has some of the fastest feet in the position. She really stepped up to help her team stay super competitive against every team. Abigail Lesagonicz Abigail Lesagonicz 6'3" | RS Rancho Bernardo | 2026 State CA beasted at the net for this awesome squad. She let some bombs fly from the pins just when her team needed some firepower. Sophia Johnson jumped really well and was very difficult for teams to block. She hit a very heavy ball that tooled the block over and over. Kylee-Jo Wilson also added some key attacks for Wave during long rallies. She is someone who I will be watching very closely moving forward.
