Triple Crown was, yet again, one for the books.
The talent on display and the epic match-ups throughout the convention center did not disappoint.
Still reeling from all of the fun, let’s take a look at some of the biggest performers from the tournament. Who were the fab five middle blockers in the 18s division this year?
Favor Anyanwu – TAV
One of the toughest middle blockers you’ll come across, there’s not much that can get past Favor Anyanwu. If you succeed getting past her her stout block, it’ll be pretty tough to stop her when she’s crushing the ball. Anywanwu was at her peak performance at Triple Crown.
Taylor Harvey – Club V
Man, can this kid fly! She makes the game look so effortless. Taylor Harvey is one of the highest verts in the gym and can get on top of the ball like no tomorrow. Club V just simply cannot get the ball to her enough. Harvey is such an effective player at the net.
Anna Guard – Tri-State Elite
This team really turned some heads at Triple Crown, including mine. Headlined by the stellar play in the middle by Anna Guard, I was impressed to say the least to see this player in action. She’s one that really hasn’t been on my radar, but now is one that I’ll be keeping tabs on throughout her collegiate career.
Kennedy Washington – MADFROG
A recent Kentucky Commit, I had to check this player out. Much like Guard, to say that I was impressed with Kennedy Washington would be an understatement. Washington is such a force at the net. She moves well laterally in closing her blocks and the transition game is top notch to bring down a booming kill.
Ashlyn Philpot – Triangle
Illinois is getting a lot of dandies in the middle position over the next few years and it all starts with Ashlyn Philpot. With one last go-around with Triangle, Philpot looks like she wants to go out with a bang. Her swings have some extra pop on them and the blocking is so elite.
