A Look Behind The Curtain of The Iowa Class of 2025 Update
In this article:
The Iowa Class of 2025 rankings have been updated. Let me take a breath after going through the list of names 🙂
I always like to have a little bit of transparency when it comes to a rankings update. For this particular, we added close to 50 new names. The names come from different events that we see players at from high school to club to showcases. We also comb through various All State and All District lists as well. However, most of the evaluations are done with the live eye.
How do players move up or down within a rankings list? A lot of times we focus on adding players and moving players up. When nearly 50 players are added, that is going to cause some athletes to move down because we don’t add all 50 of those athletes at the end of the rankings. I say this often, but there are always players we miss. For example, Stella Smith Stella Smith 6'1" | MB Pleasant Valley | 2025 State IA of Pleasant Valley and Iowa Rockets . Smith was a big time standout for PV this past season, she’s committed to UMKC (Kansas City) and when going through the player updates, I missed her! She was able to play down an age group for Rockets and it got lost in the shuffle. Yes, it happens. We continue to keep an eye out for new athletes all year round.
There are the athletes who find their groove, athletes we see in a different setting, or even on a bigger stage. Two athletes that really rose in the rankings were Brooke Larsen Brooke Larsen 5'11" | S CB Lewis Central | 2025 State IA and Kamryn Scheib Kamryn Scheib 5'11" | DS/L Ankeny | 2025 State IA . Larsen is a standout setter/right side for Council Bluffs Lewis Central and Nebraska Premier out of Omaha. She had a huge high school season where she led her team to a final four finish. She is also playing for the top club team out of Omaha where she is consistently playing at the open level. Kamryn Scheib Kamryn Scheib 5'11" | DS/L Ankeny | 2025 State IA had a breakout season for Ankeny this past high school season. Prior to this season, Scheib was playing a lot of DS and a little bit on the outside. This past high school season she got the chance to really showcase her skill and be a breakout athletes advancing to the state tournament. She has also been a key piece to the start of club for Iowa Impact out of Ankeny.
These rankings are simply a tool. This is one of the resources that college coaches can use where they can see where athletes are playing in high school, club, and if they are committed to a college. College coaches are not going to offer based on any type of rankings. There are plenty of variables that college coaches are considering and a ranking isn’t one of them.
