On Sunday, February 4 the HOA 15U Power League play began with 20 teams competing.

The 15U age group is usually the youngest group that I scout. Players at that age could have another growth spurt or could be done. They may love volleyball now, but change their passion to another sport during their high school careers.

Here is a report on five prospects from the 8:00 am contest between [program_tooltip program_id='428876' first='Club' last='MVP'] 15-1 and [program_tooltip program_id='491465' first='Building' last='Champions'] 15-1. A match that ended up being a three-set victory for the square representing the new club, [program_tooltip program_id='491465' first='Building' last='Champions'].

[player_tooltip player_id='487100' first='Lauren' last='Taloney'], 5'6”, S, St. James Academy, '27 ([program_tooltip program_id='491465' first='Building' last='Champions'] 15-1)

The player that impressed me the most in the first match of the day was St. James Academy prospect Taloney. She is a quality setter in the making. Her team was out of system almost the entire first set and she adjusted well and was able to make decent passes that still ended up as attack attempts. When she got a solid pass from the back row she proved to have a nice touch, especially on a couple of quick and tight middle sets. Taloney finished the match with 13 assists. She also has a nasty-funky serve that resulted in multiple aces.

Kendall Johnson, 5'9”, OH, Blue Valley Southwest, '27 ([program_tooltip program_id='491465' first='Building' last='Champions'] 15-1)

The future at Blue Balley Southwest is bright as the [program_tooltip program_id='491465' first='Building' last='Champions'] squad featured two Timberwolves hitters. Johnson could be a six-rotation varsity and college player later. She filled up her stat line with three kills, four digs, and four serve receptions. She also has a hard and accurate serve. She picked on the MVP's back row and had multiple serving point streaks.

[player_tooltip player_id='530220' first='Jacqueline' last='Steinlage'], 5'10”, OH, Blue Valley Southwest, '27 ([program_tooltip program_id='491465' first='Building' last='Champions'] 15-1)

Steinlage arguably is the best all-around athlete on this squad. She played on the front row, is physical, tall, and can block. She finished the match with three kills and two digs. I like her approach and the ability to hit out-of-system balls.

[player_tooltip player_id='530208' first='Piper' last='Overman'], 5'9”, RS, St. Mary's-Colgan, '27 ([program_tooltip program_id='428876' first='Club' last='MVP'] 15-1)

Overman has a nice swing. I featured here in a preview report earlier this weekend. I was more impressed seeing her play in person than I was with her young HUDL highlights. She plays with composure and does not panic when the team is out of system or needs a big play. Overman had three kills, two digs, and one block in the loss to [program_tooltip program_id='491465' first='Building' last='Champions'].

[player_tooltip player_id='530227' first='Avery' last='Barnett'], 5'7”, MH/RS, Riverton, '27 ([program_tooltip program_id='428876' first='Club' last='MVP'] 15-1)

Barnett played front row only for [program_tooltip program_id='428876' first='Club' last='MVP'] and finished the match with one kill, two digs, and one block. She is athletic, jumps well, and is quick. I hope I get to see her play again and witness how her game evolves.

Although I primarily focus on scouting and stating players from Kansas, two players from Missouri on the [program_tooltip program_id='428876' first='Club' last='MVP'] squad impressed me. They were six-footer Alexis Letts (Diamond) and Carthage setter Elsie Willis.
