Teams competed in a 3-match pool play before facing off in a single crossover match versus a corresponding finisher from a separate pool. Focusing on the 18U Division liberos gives us a look at athletes from multiple graduation years who all share a commitment to keeping the ball off the ground!
Hayes has been holding down the DS spot, giving Dakine 18 Surf two excellent defenders in the back row. She has a calm and controlled platform in server receive and stepping in to make a play on an off-speed shot or free ball. The senior from Tumwater make life easier for her setter Katie Herrick, delivering pin-point passes that have the right height and tempo. Hayes the athleticism to run down balls deep in the back court, and make a play at the head high rockets that come her way down the line.
Highlights
Scherer is built low to the ground and can turn on a burst of speed to run down the ball. The Skyline senior is relentless going after any and every ball, and is confident enough to cut in front of a teammate when she can make the play. Scherer has a good feel for where a serve or swing is headed, she makes confident moves with feet and has the strength to absorb and soften her passes.
Highlights
Kora and her PSVBA 17 Legacy squad had a terrific run at the 2nd round of the Power League. After a 2-1 record in play they confidently rolled into a 2 set victory in the crossover match. The only loss of the day was in 3, 13-15 to SNVF 18 Secret. Kora is always going to give her setters an opportunity, she leaves the ball high when is should be, and she does a nice job keeping the pass off the net. She is strong through her hands and upper body, handling chest high shots effectively.
The SNVF libero in the #3 jersey has excellent communication with her team. Sum handles more than her share of the court in serve receive, and knows when to stab at a ball to the corner or let her middle back run it down. She had a bead on the outsides for Dakine 17, digging up multiple hard shots in the match, In set two Sum had a cover for her attacker, and when the ball suddenly made its way back to her needing to get over, she alertly drilled it into play while still on the ground. The 2025 prospect continues to raise her game and SNVF 18 Secret is playing excellent ball this club season
The 2026 libero plays with a SIVBC 16 team that nearly took down Dakine 18 Surf in the final match of the day. SIVBC dropped the third 17-19, and pushed Dakine to the limit. Nguyen is a high end defender who is technical wizard passing the ball on defense and in serve receive. She is making reaction plays- one handed stabs on balls off the block, popping up the ball on covers- and delivering those digs to spots where her team can initiate a solid scoring opportunity. Nguyen is the top ranked 2026 libero for a reason and she continues to show it.
Dodson played well as the libero in the final match of the day against Space Needle 18. Although Dakine did not get the final result they wanted, Dodson put together a solid serving run early in the first set, dropping two aces into the seam against the SNVF back line. She has excellent reactions on setter attacks and dumps, with her quick feet helping her reach the second ball when the setter is out of the play. Dodson has played multiple positions in her career, and she utilizes it when setting the pins, playing gritty defense and when she might have to send over a down ball.
