Almost 700 teams took the courts at the George R. Brown Convention Center, in downtown, competing for two days in one of the 18 divisions of the tournament.
Prep Dig was in attendance on Saturday, when we got to watch the pool play matches of the event. One of the divisions we covered was 15 Open, which featured eight teams, coming from several different regions of Texas. Some players stood out to us for their performances and we’re taking the week to report on them. It’s time we take a look at the outside hitters:
Mia Nunez
Mia Nunez
Nunez and her SA Elite 151 Navy had a productive weekend in Houston, ranking first in the division with five victories. The outside hitter was a key piece in her team’s success, providing stability on both sides of the ball. Nunez was very strong offensively, getting off the floor extremely well and using her quick right arm to beat blockers and defenders. At the same time she could hit the ball hard, the pin hitters also used tips and roll shots with great intelligence, switching gears very efficiently. She also handled the passes that went her way well and made some good plays on defense.
As usual, Klein was huge for her Houston Stellar 15 Elite team that got a second-place finish in the tournament, getting four wins in five matches. A very skilled and explosive player, she used her technical resources extremely well to a make a difference and is capable of contributing in basically every aspect of the game. Klein reads the game extremely well and has tremendous ball control, which makes of her an excellent defender and a reliable passer. Despite not very tall, she jumps extremely well and has the power and the vision to beat the blockers and score points at the pin.
Highlights
Riley Faught

Faught and her Alamo 15 Elite teammates got one win in five matches to rank sixth in Houston. Despite her team’s record, the outside hitter left a strong impression with her all-around game. Faught was extremely consistent for Alamo and served as a reference for the team even when they were under pressure. She was always at the right spot on the backcourt and was very productive with her passing and defense. The pin hitter was also effective at the net, using her lenght and her shot variation to put the ball down.
Anijah Pearson
Anijah Pearson
Pearson and her SA Chiefs 15 Black team finished seventh with two wins and three losses. A physical player, she was os great importance to her team offensively, combining her athleticism with great vision and finesse to score. Pearson got off the floor well and could swing hard, but showed to have several different shots in her game to score with great efficiency from the left and the right. She also did a fine job on the backcourt, passing at a good rate and playing solid defense.
