I love this event because of all of the special talent that comes from all over the nation to win that elusive bid to USAV Junior Nationals. Day two has shown tons of amazing volleyball now that the divisions have been split into the top finishers from yesterday. I watched a ton of play from the USA division today and here are some players who stood out to me due to their individual performances.
Camille Middleton Camille Middleton 5'8" | OH Boswell | 2025 State TX [2026] 5-8 Outside (HS: Boswell/Club: Dallas Skyline/Verbal: Uncommitted)
The match I watched started off with Camille serving five straight points with three aces and the other two serves getting the opposing team out of system. She was sending laser beams from the service line. What was even more impressive was her tenacious back row defense out of the middle back position. She lived on the floor back there and didn’t let much fall anywhere near her zone. I loved the relentless pursuit of the ball that she showed. Everyone knows that she has amazing exploits on offense, but her defense was the reason why this team went undefeated today. When her team needed a kill while she was in the back row, she delivered like she always does. Although she is a little shorter than most outside hitters, if you sleep on her, she will make you pay. This dynamo can absolutely fly on the pins and makes everyone pay for ill-timed blocks. Not many have her lightning quick explosion off of the floor. This is one huge reason why we just added her to our state rankings list last week.
Ayanna Watson [2026] 6-3 Outside (HS: Bishop Gorman/Club: Vegas Aces/Verbal: Uncommitted)
I am not sure there is a more athletic or dynamic left side attacker in the entire state of Nevada than Miss Watson. She was recently selected as their Gatorade Player of the Year and for good reason. I have watched her over the last few years progress into a superb force on the volleyball court. She will undoubtedly be ranked on our national rankings when they get released and I cannot wait to see where she falls. She has my vote for sure. As an attacker, the downward force that she generates with her arm swing should be studied. I love how she also uses some amazing hand contact to get on top of the ball and also direct it to the exact place she wants it to go. Her height is great for sure, but it becomes deadly when she contacts the ball at her true high reach. This makes it very difficult for opposing blockers to time her attack. When you analyze her attack, what truly stands out also is how she crunches her abs at the point of contact. This adds so much violence to her kills and it is a beautiful thing to see. Her overall play stood out to me and I will be watching her team tomorrow during the gold bracket play. You should also.
Peyton Recinos Peyton Recinos 5'4" | OH St. Thomas The Apostle School | 2028 CA [2028] 5-4 Libero (HS: St. Thomas The Apostle/Club: SG Elite/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Although only an eighth grader, Miss Recinos plays like a seasoned veteran in the libero position. A lot of things stood out to me when I watched her play. I love how she commands the back row by leading by example and by being vocal. She is not afraid to take the second ball when her setter digs the first ball and she knows exactly where to deliver it in order for her front row to be effective. As a serve receiver, I love how she creates amazing angles with her platform in order to deliver perfect passes to her setter. When you watch her play you get the feeling that she is a senior trapped in an eighth grader’s body. She makes reads like an older defender and it is amazing to watch. Fearless would be a great word to describe her abilities in the back row. She is not afraid to get on the floor if need be to keep the ball from hitting the ground. As a digger, she just has a soft natural touch on the ball when her platform rebounds the ball. I think she has the ability to make our state rankings next year when we release her grad class. We will gladly keep watching her progress in this sport and her position.
There are many more amazing players that will be written about. Stay tuned for more articles on your favorite athletes.
