The list of uncommitted players keeps getting smaller. Interesting that only one player in the top ten for the class of 2025 has yet to commit. For brevity’s sake we will only name one player per club.
Class of 2024
Kiylah Presley Kiylah Presley 6'0" | OH Bishop McNamara | 2024 State #114 Nation VA left side ( Paramount ) – She had committed to Virginia but has uncommitted. At the Under Armor challenge she stood out as just one of two players invited to the event that was uncommitted. Last year she switched from middle blocker to left side hitter. There are still adjustments to be made to her swing as she acclimates to the higher sets. At 6’0″ with some long levers she can reach 10’5″. When in a zone she can dominate a game. Paramount will play open this weekend. Kiylah currently ranks number five in our class of 2024.
Samia Sayd Samia Sayd 5'11" | OH Marshall | 2024 State VA (left side Virginia Elite) – All but three of the players on Virginia Elite 18 are committed. Samia ranks the highest at number 20 in our top 150. Last year Samia played for Virginia Jrs. She switched this year to Virginia Elite and with the switch came a position change – from left side to right side. The team normally runs a 5/1 so Samia could still play six rotations. One of her strengths has been her ability to play back row and create an attack from behind the three meter line. Virginia Elite will be playing in the open division. Last week Virginia Elite finished third in the Chesapeake bid regionals but Samia was absent from the event.
Ziqing Zhou Ziqing Zhou OH State VA left side (Maryland Jrs) – Maryland Jrs plays at a different level with Ziqing on the court. At times they seem to set her too frequently allowing the block to key on her. No intimidation on her side. She keeps swinging hard, putting excellent velocity on her spikes, whether she attacks from the front or back row. Her passing and defense play better than most liberos. At the National Harbor tournament she showed a powerful jump spin serve that hit the seams well and travelled to the deeper areas of the court. At about 5’10” her height leaves her small for a Division I program, but a fast arm swing could compensate for that. Ziqing is not currently ranked, but when the new rankings come out in April she should be somewhere in the top 30s of our class of 2024. Maryland Juniors will play in the USA Division.
Rayah Howell Rayah Howell 5'10" | MB Garrison Forrest | 2024 State VA middle (Columbia Volleyball Academy) – Another unranked player to make this list. Columbia Volleyball Academy finished second to Metro at the Capitol Hill Classic. They also won the Chesapeake Regionals to earn a national bid. Talk about a team stirring the pot. One of the players critical to the team’s success is Rayah. Her 5’10” height makes her small for a middle, but she hits the quick sets well, runs slides and can hit right side. She plays for Garrison Forest high school with teammate Selah Brashear Selah Brashear 5'8" | OH Garrison Forrest | 2024 State VA and Metro 6’4″ left side Bryah Breaux Bryah Breaux 6'4" | OH Garrison Forest | 2026 State VA . She led the team in blocks and finished second in kills. Last year the Grizzlies won their first ever Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland (IAAM) championship. Columbia will compete in the USA Division.
Class of 2025
Highlights
Sarah Jeremias Sarah Jeremias 5'11" | OH Holy Cross | 2025 State VA utility (Metro) – Sarah remains one of the few players on the Metro 17 team that has not committed. She ranks at number 21 in our class of 2025. For Holy Cross she hit opposite Emerson Sellman Emerson Sellman 6'4" | OH Academy of Holy Cross | 2024 State #5 Nation VA , leading the Tartans to the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC) championship. For Metro her primary duties focus on the defensive specialist position. While playing back row Sarah impresses with her ability as an attacker. She lists at 5’11. No matter where she plays she gets the job done. Open is the only division for the age 17 teams.
Riley Lynch Riley Lynch 6'0" | MB James Madison | 2025 State VA middle (Virginia Jrs) – At 6’0″ Riley brings some length to the court. Her middle play led Madison to a first place finish in the Concorde District. They got to the semifinals before losing to Battlefield in the Virginia Class 6 state championship. Madison was the only team to beat state champion Langley and they completed that task all three times they played them. Riley runs the quicks well and has long levers to put up a good block. Virginia Juniors won the National Harbor tournament. Riley ranks number 20 in our class of 2025.
Jocelyn Pye Jocelyn Pye 6'0" | OH Bishop O'Connell | 2025 State VA left side and Julia Kelly Julia Kelly 6'1" | OH Alexandria City | 2025 State VA right side (Virginia Elite) – Setter Shylah Swope Shylah Swope 5'10" | S Herndon | 2025 State VA has been mentioned as a premier uncommitted player from this team a couple times. She remains uncommitted. Jocelyn Pye Jocelyn Pye 6'0" | OH Bishop O'Connell | 2025 State VA (ranked 26) and Julia Kelly Julia Kelly 6'1" | OH Alexandria City | 2025 State VA (ranked 27) are two more players yet to commit who can add value to a team. Jocelyn hits left side with an approach jump at 9’9″. She led Bishop O’Connell in kills and at 6’0″ is capable of putting up a good block. She also plays an excellent back row winning the team’s best passer award. The one area of improvement for her is her back row attack.
Julia is 6’2″ and normally plays right side but can also hit left side. She plays for Alexandria City high school. The Patriot District voted her to the second team. When hitting right side she likes to paint the line and at 6’2″ with nice arm extension she succeeds more often than not. Her height also allows her to put up a good block against the left side hitters. I have not seen a lot of back row play from her yet.
Gabriella Prather Gabriella Prather 6'3" | MB Reservoir | 2025 State VA middle (Maryland Jrs) – At 6’3″ Gabriella Prather Gabriella Prather 6'3" | MB Reservoir | 2025 State VA will grab your attention on the volleyball court. When you consider her first exposure to organized volleyball came during her first year in high school you have to be impressed with her current development. Height can give you many opportunities but at some point you have to develop the skills to play the game. Gabriella has developed those skills. She led her Reservoir high school team to the semi-finals of the Maryland class 4 state championships, eventually losing to the state champion Richard Montgomery. Gabriella ranks number 38 in our class of 2025.
