Michigan has produced a fair amount of long setters over the years, and the Class of 2024 has quite a few. The top three in this class each stands at least 6'1”. [player_tooltip player_id='110292' first='Zoey' last='Dood'] is a 6'2” setter from Grandville that is heading to Virginia and earned the top spot in our position rankings. Dood makes the position look quite effortless and can unleash some really powerful swings on her own. [player_tooltip player_id='172203' first='Taylor' last='Smith'] is the 6'1” setter for Pewamo-Westphalia that took home the Miss Volleyball Award in 2023. She's worked her way to a spot with Eastern Michigan, no small feat for a Division 3 talent. Smith had complete command of the floor and used her size to get the best out of her hitters and be a dominant blocking force as well. [player_tooltip player_id='172199' first='Sophie' last='Crawford'] is a 6'1” setter from Gull Lake that will be heading to a MAC program as well, Miami (Ohio). Crawford has a great sense for her hitters and when to call her own number. She works hard to be the best she can be on the floor.

Size isn't everything

While length is a nice feature to have as a setter, some of the other top setters on this list excelled without it. [player_tooltip player_id='110335' first='Avery' last='Woodard'] was a candidate for D2 Player of the Year as she led Marysville to pushing champ North Branch to its limit. Woodard was a great example of a floor general. Her energy on the court was infectious. [player_tooltip player_id='110278' first='Caroline' last='Baker'] brought Byron Center back to being a top D1 contender this year. She faced off against a lot of great defenses, but got her team to play at an elite level. Her focus and decision-making will have her as a great asset for Grand Valley State. [player_tooltip player_id='110309' first='Emery' last='Kuebler'] showed a lot of leadership and character this fall with Clarkston, shifting to a two-setter offense. She remained an on-floor leader and picked up her defensive play and serving to compliment her elite setting ability. Kuebler is a player any college would love and Frostburg State is getting a good one.

Three dark horses

There's some impressive talent outside the top 10, some of which have a chance to really shine at the college level. [player_tooltip player_id='153664' first='Jackie' last='Scheiber'] is a setter/hitter combo player that stands 6'0”. She's from Riverview and heading to Saginaw Valley State. With her size and footwork, Scheiber can be an explosive player at the next level. She can play well above the net, but has the quick adaptability to make plays in all phases of the game. [player_tooltip player_id='172201' first='Margaret' last='Hilliard'] is a 6'3” setter out of Cranbrook. With her length, you knew she had potential. She's gotten more aggressive and added new facets to her game over the years, which lands her a spot with Baldwin Wallace. Hilliard can keep building on her game and be a difference-maker. [player_tooltip player_id='274529' first='Brealyn' last='Lasky'] was another in the great Lasky family for Bronson volleyball. She had all the traits you'd expect. She was a leader, an intense player, and left everything she had on the floor each match.
