The Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center, in Dallas, will now host nearly 1,000 teams, which are split into ten divisions in the 15s, 16s and 17s age groups, all looking to earn a bid for the upcoming USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championship, in July.
Spots in the Open division are the most coveted ones and Texas will have 60 teams battling for them across the three age groups. As the event approaches, let’s highlight some of the top talent of the Lone Star State which will be in action this week.
First, the setters:
Rylie Coates
Rylie Coates
Coates will be with Alamo 15 Premier and to say that she’s an important piece of the team as its setter would probably be an understatement. An extremely well-rounded player, she has a unique role in the team, developed to give her the ability to make as much of an impact in the game as possible. Coates spends most rotations at setter and does a very good job tracking passes and setting her teammates up, but she also contributes offensively and with her blocking, moving on some rotations from the right to the middle. A very technical and intelligent player, she adds a lot on defense and is one of Alamo’s leaders, displaying a positive attitude on the court.

One of the top setters to emerge in the class of 2027, Stephens will run the show for TAV 15 Black Jason. Her game is far beyond what anyone would expect from a setter of her age as very few of them combine technical, physical and mental skills in the way she does. Her touch on the ball is clean and precise, she has the size to make an impact at the net by hitting and blocking at a high level and she’s also very intelligent to read the match and adapt her team’s game plan. Stephens’ intelligence and decision-making potentialize the strong group of hitters she has to work with and she’s one of those players who step up in big moments.
Lund will set for Austin Skyline 16 Royal this weekend, splitting duties with Maggie McCarroll Maggie McCarroll 6’0″ | S Regents | 2026 State TX . She has the skills and the volleyball IQ to keep her team’s offense running smoothly for days, but it’s her ability to contribute in other areas of the game that makes her stand out from the players in her position. Lund uses her length very well to get to tight passes and also to speed up plays and is very difficult to read for opposing blockers. Standing at 6’2″, she also blocks very well and is extremely capable when playing defense.
Highlights
Caroline Adams
Caroline Adams
Adams will be setting for AVA TX 16 Adidas this weekend in Dallas. She has some of the best hands in her age group in Texas and does an excellent job of remaining accurate with her locations even when working with challenging passes. Adams is also very intelligent with her distribution, moving hitters around when in system and sharing the ball among all of them with great balance and efficiency. The left-handed setter can also serve tough and play defense at a very high level.
Karyna Werley
Karyna Werley
Werley goes to school in New Mexico, but plays club for Tx Performance 17s Black. She plays the setter position with great tenacity and is never afraid of taking her chances and trying something unexpected on the court. Werley is very aggressive with her setter dumps and likes to get creative with her ball distribution, making her team play at a fast pace and moving hitters around. She delivers precise sets to every location and consistently puts her hitters in a good position to score. The setter also makes a strong defensive effort at the right back position, reading the game well and getting several digs each match.
