The Class of 2028 is next into the fray this fall, and last Friday's Midwest Live Showcase gave us a sneak peek at Iowa's latest wave of prep athletes. Hatlevig was a persistent standout at the outside hitter spot and displayed a mature all-around game. She had a knack for scoring in the frontcourt and was just as effective in the middle-back area. This future Pleasant Valley prep athlete took over team drills with her high contact point and shutdown blocking along the net. Kremer was also strong in positional drills, even when taking some serve receive reps. Although Cordes hasn't suited up at the high school level yet, she looks like a soon-to-be impact player with the powerhouse program. She is a fluid athlete at the middle blocker spot who can effectively close any block. Cordes was a lethal transition attacker in Des Moines who excelled in the intense environment of team competitions. Schneider was a steady leader throughout our showcase and made everyone around her better. She located the ball well and ensured that all hitters were involved in the offense. This worked in tandem with Schneider's outstanding vocal leadership--a key element of any setter's game. Crane added to the tally with her impressive length and ability to work with any tempo. She will readily handle a slower pace from the middle that allows her colossal reach to take over. We have another athlete to discuss at the position, and this one hails from my Nebraska homeland. Luthi carried the banner for Gretna High School and Premier Nebraska, and she made the most of her Des Moines trip. Aside from her quick arm at the net, Luthi displayed some sharp backcourt skills that make her an ideal M1. Jackson was a game-changing addition to any backcourt in team drills and brought outstanding intensity to the end line. Even with unfamiliar faces on her side of the net, Jackson did not hesitate to take the initiative and make tough defensive plays.
