Summer Coverage: Sabetha And Riley County Standouts

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Ten high school teams met in Topeka on June 15 to participate in the Kansas Klassic at Seaman High School and Middle School.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>I scouted three matches at the event and was impressed and entertained by the quality of the matches.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Here is the first of three scouting reports covering the event. The first report features four athletes who played a solid match in Black Pool play. Sabetha and Riley County played a two-set match on Court 2.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='552355' first='Erin' last='Boltz']</strong>, 5'10”, OH, Sabetha, ‘25</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Boltz parlayed her solid performance into being added to the class of 2025 rankings. Look for her to be added in early July during the next round of updates. Boltz has quick feet and broad shoulders. She is a jumper with a big reach. She finished with eight kills, five serve receptions, two digs, and two blocks against Riley County. She is a playmaker and remains calm in high-pressure situations. She has conversations with a couple of college programs but is still uncommitted.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='552358' first='Aubrey' last='Schmlezle']</strong>, 5'9”, MB, Sabetha ‘25</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Schmlezle is a six-rotation “Jack-Of-All-Trades” type of athlete. She is athletic and communicates well with her teammates. She is extremely versatile and I can see her playing middle, outside, or defensive specialist. Her game reminds me of Smoky Valley's Hope Duncan who is headed to Fort Hays State. She has line drive serve with sinking action. The Blue Jay prospect warmed up for the prep season recording three kills, two blocks, four digs, and one ace.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Katelyn Allison</strong>, 5'9”, S/RS, Riley County, ‘26</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Riley County's Allison is headed into her junior season. She can set and hit, but I think her future might be as a hitter. She is an athlete who would add quality depth to any high school or college roster. She finished with three kills and three serve receptions. Allison is the consummate team player willing to play multiple positions based on team needs.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Riley Mitoska</strong>, 5'10”, OH, Riley County, ‘27 Mitoska was one of a couple of sophomores who caught my eye at the Kansas Klassic. She has natural athleticism and her game will improve as she gains experience and confidence. The Falcons' prospect has a nice defensive base and some bounce to her game. She is a wiry talent who would benefit from adding upper-body strength. She finished with four kills, four serve receptions, and two digs against Sabetha.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
