Who are the best freshmen volleyball players in Texas? We definitely saw some players who wanted that title over the weekend at our Freshman Showcases. The first session was held on Saturday July 27th at the Competitive Edge Training facility in Houston, TX. The one aspect that sets our showcases apart from every other one in the country is how we offer coverage, before, during, and after it is completed. This series of articles will discuss those special players that stood out for various reasons to our court coaches and scouts. They have won our prestigious Top Performer award. Let's meet the winners!

[player_tooltip player_id='579085' first='Lexy' last='Rendon'] [2028] 5-6 Libero (HS: BVCHEA/Club: [program_tooltip program_id='510661' first='Houston' last='Skyline'] The Woodlands/Verbal: Uncommitted)

Lexy is currently an unranked prospect in the 2028 Class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings, but that is only because we have not released them yet. She plays volleyball at BVCHEA High School and plays for the [program_tooltip program_id='510661' first='Houston' last='Skyline'] The Woodlands program. Miss Rendon did such a great job of pursuing the ball no matter where the opposition sent it. Her tenacity to get on the floor if she had to stood out to the positional coaches and it translated into the scrimmage portion very well. While a lot of players can look good in position drills and freeze up when it comes to the competition portion, Lexy really stepped up when the going got tough and proved that she is a gamer. One aspect that really stood out to our scouts is how she was able to pass serve in all three back row spots. She looked like a number one starting libero out there. Please help us congratulate her on earning a Top Performer award.

[player_tooltip player_id='580696' first='Malia' last='Gibbs'] [2028] 6-0 Outside (HS: Hays/Club: Austin Performance/Verbal: Uncommitted)

Malia is currently an unranked prospect in the 2028 Class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings, but that is only because we have not released them yet. She plays volleyball at Jack C. Hays High School and club for the Austin Performance volleyball program. Miss Gibbs was one arguable one of the best attackers throughout the entire showcase. Routinely she rattled off kill after kill when she was subbed in for her squad. In watching her compete, her athleticism showed that she has tons to give any team she is on. As a coach, you would be able to play her at multiple positions and also create tons of mismatches by bringing her around for second tempo sets to overload a wide blocking scheme. I really liked how she used a big hand contact to control the ball and direct it to any location she wanted to. Her motor on the court was really high and this will keep her involved in every single play. Please help us congratulate her on earning a Top Performer award at the showcase.

[player_tooltip player_id='579937' first='Hannah' last='Tinnell'] [2028] 5-10 Middle (HS: College Park/Club: [program_tooltip program_id='510661' first='Houston' last='Skyline']/Verbal: Uncommitted)

Hannah is currently an unranked prospect in the 2028 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings, but that is only because we have not released them yet. She plays volleyball at College Park High School and also for the [program_tooltip program_id='510661' first='Houston' last='Skyline'] volleyball club program. Hannah really held her own on the pins for her court. I liked how she battled with a strong upper body presence on the right side. Coaches will love how strong she is while blocking at the net. I thought that she did a great job of timing the attack by jumping slightly after the hitter jumped so that she would be pressing over while they were at the point of contact with the ball. When her squad needed a solid swing, she was able to provide them with an attempt that was difficult for the opposition to slow down. What I also liked about her is how she had a great attitude with both her coaches and players that she didn't truly know well. This says a lot about her personality and what she can bring to a team by being positive. Please help us congratulate her on earning the Top Performer award for this showcase.
