The Wichita Metro is a hotbed of volleyball. Andover Central, Andover, Maize, and Maize South all qualified for the state tournaments last season and should compete for post-season appearances again in 2024.

Valley Center, Bishop Carroll, and Wichita North are other teams that can't be slept on this upcoming fall.

As we get closer to practice and tryouts starting next Monday here is a look at five Wichita area seniors ready for big seasons. To my knowledge, each of these athletes is still uncommitted and looking to play college volleyball. By my count nine Wichita area athletes have already made verbal college commitments.

I am planning on traveling to the Wichita area during the first week of the season and hope to catch a couple of matches in the area.

[player_tooltip player_id='395236' first='Teagan' last='Canady'], 5'10”, OH, Valley Center

Valley Center's Canady is currently ranked No. 50 by Prep Dig Kansas. She finished with 197 kills and 26 total blocks during her junior season. I saw her play club ball last season with Kansas Networks. I saw two of Valley's younger prospects at the Prep Dig Stock Up Showcase this month and the Hornets will have multiple attacking weapons this fall. Canady will be leaned on to provide leadership and mentorship for the younger hitters.

[player_tooltip player_id='493422' first='Lauren' last='Heinz'], 5'7”, S, Andover

Heinz is currently ranked No. 54 overall. She is a teammate of Canady's during the club season as both play for Kansas Networks. The Trojans have an experienced and skilled setter running their dangerous offense. She is quick and has a high volleyball IQ. She works diligently to keep her hitting options engaged in the offense.

[player_tooltip player_id='551296' first='Andrea' last='Hernandez'], 6'0”, MB, Wichita North

Hernandez is a high-jumping middle currently ranked No. 65 overall in the class of 2025. She caught my eye at the Butler Community College summer tournament. She is very athletic and has a nasty serve. She finished her junior season with 118 kills and 26 total blocks in 68 sets played. North is a team that impressed me this summer and they could be a dark horse team to qualify for state.

[player_tooltip player_id='495681' first='Cora' last='Daggett'], 6'2”, MB, Wichita North

North's Daggett is currently ranked No. 68 overall. Dagget is big and strong. She hits the ball with authority and is an athlete who can intimidate smaller front-row units. Daggett collected 209 kills for the Indians last fall. She has the size and strength to whet the recruitment appetite of any college coach.

[player_tooltip player_id='493591' first='Oliviah' last='Hughes'], 5'7”, OH, Maize

Prep Dig has Maize outside hitter Hughes ranked No. 88 overall. She can help a team in the back and front rows. Hughes finished her junior campaign with 211 digs and 139 kills. The Eagles year in and year out are a deep and talented team that will compete for league and state titles.
