PD Nevada Freshman Showcase: Top Performing Setters and Liberos

<p>This past weekend, PrepDig held its first-ever Freshman Showcase, where over 35 players had the opportunity to showcase their skills alongside their peers, and in front of scouts and coaches. During the event, there were several impressive setters and liberos, but only a few are able to be selected as a TOP PERFORMER. </p>   <p>The following players showcased high-level handwork, volleyball iq and defensive abilities that gave them an edge. <strong>Here are the top-performing setters and liberos from the Freshman Showcase. </strong></p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">TOP PERFORMING SETTERS</h2>    <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img src="https://prepdig.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/5/2024/08/IMG_2883.jpeg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-603020" /></figure>   <p>Boyana was the most dynamic player at both showcases. Although she primarily plays as a setter, she emerged as one of the top hitters at the freshman event. Her setting skills are exceptional, with optimal placement for her teammates, from anywhere on the court. Additionally, she has a remarkable talent for disguising dumps, a skill that sets her apart from her peers. When hitting, her mechanics are impeccable—she has a strong approach, a quick arm swing, and a great ability to get on top of the ball. Recently, she earned a spot on the Bishop Gorman varsity team, the defending 5A state champions. With her advanced skill set, she is poised to be a key contributor to her team.</p>   <p><strong>*Boyana also made the PrepDig Nevada Freshman All-Showcase Team. Crane is the kind of setter who makes the position look effortless, with a clean and smooth technique that immediately showcases her high-level skills. After just one look, it's clear she has a natural talent for setting. When she wasn't setting, she also excelled as an outside hitter, adding numerous kills during competitive six-on-six matches. She excels at reading passes and anticipating where the ball will land, allowing her to position herself effectively with precise footwork. She consistently places the ball in ideal spots for her hitters, demonstrating both her setting accuracy and the hard work she has invested behind the scenes. Her ability to vary her sets to confuse the defense is impressive. The future is bright for this freshman setter.<br></p>     <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img src="https://prepdig.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/5/2024/08/IMG_2888.jpeg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-603023" /></figure>   <p>Isabella was very impressive in the setter position. She has a lot of power and is able to push the ball out far to either pin, giving hitters multiple attack options at the net. Her communication on the court was outstanding, with consistently clean sets and a positive attitude throughout the event. Isabella's energy was contagious, and she displayed excellent decision-making by varying her sets during intense six-on-six games, leading her team to rack up points. With her skill set and potential, Isabella has a bright future as a setter, and we can expect to hear her name frequently in the coming years.<br><br></p>    <h2 class="wp-block-heading">TOP PERFORMING DS/LIBEROS</h2>    <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img src="https://prepdig.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/5/2024/08/IMG_2887.jpeg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-603024" /></figure>   <p class="text-gray-700">Isabella was an instant standout from the moment she got on the court. She is small, but mighty, easily navigating the court and reaching balls that others might struggle to return. Her agility and quick reaction time allow her to cover a wide area and find the best angles for passing. She consistently delivered accurate passes, making it easier for her team to set up plays. She continued to impress throughout the event, showcasing her hustle and drive in back-row defense. Her energy and smile were incredibly infectious, boosting team morale during competitive six-on-six games. She also delivered one of the best serves of the event and consistently made clean passes to the setter.
