There were not any sightings of Wiliam Becknell or Santa Claus at Santa Fe Trail High School on August 28, however, Prep Dig was in attendance for the Chargers' preseason jamboree that included Cair Paravel, Mission Valley, and Burlingame High Schools.

Teams competed in round-robin competition and completed two set matches to 15 points. Here is a glance at six prospects I was impressed with during the preseason tune-up.

[player_tooltip player_id='612038' first='Adaline' last='Bloomfield'], 5'6”, OH, Mission Valley, ‘25

Bloomfield was the top attacker for the Mission Valley Vikings in 2023. She is currently unranked, but expect that to be rectified during the next round of updates. She is quick, has a quiet receiving platform, and elevates well. I watched the Vikings' first match against Cair Paravel closely and she finished with three kills, three digs, and six serve receptions. She played six rotations for Mission Valley and would be a solid addition to JUCO or NAIA programs.

[player_tooltip player_id='474147' first='Karsyn' last='Hastert'], 5'10”, OH, Cair Paravel, ‘26

Hastert is ranked No. 34 overall in the class of 2026. She was the most impressive junior I saw on the four teams. She finished with six kills, three digs, and seven serve receptions for the Lions in a two-set win over Mission Valley. She can hit the ball hard, but she also has a knack for knowing when to tip. Much of the match was played out of system, so I don't feel like I saw her best performance, but she is a talented athlete I would recommend to college coaches.

[player_tooltip player_id='516246' first='Quincy' last='Cook'], 5'10”, MB, Santa Fe Trail, ‘27

Santa Fe Trail's Cook is ranked No. 81 overall in the class of 2027 by Prep Dig Kansas. I watched the Chargers' second match of the evening against Mission Valley. Cook is an athletic outside hitter who finished with six kills in the win over the Vikings. She has an explosive approach and smooth swing. She is expected to play club ball for the Topeka Saints after prep season. She is a talent that I have earmarked for a move up the rankings when next updated.

[player_tooltip player_id='530336' first='Sydnee' last='Sleichter'], 5'0”, DS/L, Santa Fe Trail, ‘27

Sleichter is ranked No. 142 overall in the class of 2027. She is a spunky libero that I enjoyed watching. She has a quiet frame, but a big voice. She is a take-charge player and communicates well on the court. She has a good eye and made a couple of accurate calls on balls headed out of bounds. She finished the match against the Vikings with eight digs, five serve receptions, and two aces.

[player_tooltip player_id='524701' first='Abby' last='Packard'], 5'11”, MB, Mission Valley, ‘27

Packard is currently ranked No. 88 overall in the Kansas Class of 2027. She is a long and physical middle. She projects as a front-row-only option at the college level. She had two kills and two blocks in the match against Cair Paravel. If she wants to play collegiate volleyball she needs to work on improving her speed and agility. She has a big reach and teams can't overpass against her.

Becca Gately, 5'6”, OH/DS, Cair Paravel, ‘27

Gately is an interesting young unranked talent for the Lions. She has a nasty serve and can elevate as a hitter. She is a multiple-sport prospect who might be leaning toward softball as her priority sport. She plays catcher and shortstop for Cair Paravel. She plays volleyball with the same kind of tenacity as a catcher. She had five kills in the win against Mission Valley.
