Katie Gielas had an amazing game with 17 kills and 22 digs to lead the Lions (7-3). Rainey Weidman also had 22 digs with setter Addy Franz dishing out 41 assists. Lindy Radaszewski and Jillian Forrest followed Gielas with 12 and 10 kills, respectively.

Ursuline hosts Seton (9-1) in another key GGCL game. The Saints could force a three-way tie for the league lead with a win and a St. Ursula win over Mount Notre Dame (9-3).

St. Ursula ventured down Interstate-71 and played five games in two days in the Louisville Invitational. The Bulldogs finished 4-1 taking third place out of 24 teams. Their lone loss came to St. Thomas Aquinas out of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The Raiders won the state championship in Florida's second-largest Class 6A last year.

The Bulldogs had some players surge into the league lead with the big weekend. [player_tooltip player_id='176096' first='Molly' last='Creech'] leads the league with 168 kills and Gabby Semona is sixth with 95. Emma Frietch leads the league with 170 digs and Emsley Venard has a league-high 364 assists to go with 21 aces.

ECC Notes

The undefeated Kings Knights have extended their league lead to two games after one go-around after beating Turpin, 3-1 (26-24, 25-11, 16-25, 25-17) on Thursday. Kings is 9-0 in league play with Turpin (8-4), Anderson (8-3) and Loveland (9-2) tied for second at 7-2.

Ava McIntyre and Sophia Richardson led Kings with 19 and nine kills in the win over Turpin, respectively. Sophomore Kennady Horsley had 20 digs and five aces with sophomore Anabelle Seni tallying 35 assists and 15 digs. Loveland junior Josie Nichols and Anderson senior Grace Crider are second and third in the league in kills with 143 and 138, respectively.

CHL Notes

Taylor stayed undefeated at 10-0 with three wins this week including one over Madeira on Tuesday.

The Yellowjackets are 6-0 in league play and Wyoming (6-4) is in second at 5-1. Madeira (9-2) and Indian Hill (5-8) are tied for third at 4-2.

Many of the statistical leaders are the same. Wyoming does not have anyone leading the league, but junior Katie Mouch is third with 123 digs and tied for third with Madeira sophomore Evie Schiller with a 1.99 passer rating.

Robinson uses her athleticism to move her feet and track down balls. Robinson makes quick decisions to put her hands up or move her arms to square up passes and set up the Oak Hills offense. She can move up quickly to dig softer hits. She leads the Greater Miami Conference with 184 digs and is second with a 2.43 passer rating.

Ostendorf has more than 1100 assists in her career including 567 last year, but her role seems to have changed more to hitting this year. Ostendorf has a strong swing from the left side. She takes great approaches to the net with a good fake if the ball does not come her way. Ostendorf can angle balls off blockers and out of bounds. She makes quick recoveries to pass tipped balls then quickly transitions to offense. Ostendorf leads the league with 136, which is just five away from her career-high of 141 set as a sophomore last year.

Helmes does a great job controlling the net for the Comets. She hits balls off blockers and does a nice job going from defense to offense. She sees the floor and nicely smacks balls away from solid defenders. Helmes can take back sets and hit them to the sides. She also had outstanding timing on her blocks. Helmes has 100 kills and 24 blocks on the season.

Sanders has been a bright spot for the Firebirds. She makes things happen from the strong left side. She can record kills from all six spots on the floor. She consistently hits balls off blocks and takes things off to land them between defenders in the back row. Sanders ranks third in the GMC with 103 kills.

Navey may be flying under the radar a bit with the Big Blue. Navey constantly finds ways to hit balls all over the court. She might set her feet to go one way, but can adjust her hips and body in the air to angle the ball another way past defenders. Navey is second in the GMC with 117 kills.

The Mason Comets have won eight straight and nine of the last 10 Greater Miami Conference titles.
