Scouting Reports: Ankeny Centennial

She was the top all-around performer at this event. Each year, Miller adds to her repertoire. She's always been good at swinging from the outside pin and defending at the net and back row. Saturday she was effective hitting right side and from mid-middle back. The Illinois State basketball commitment brings that sport's athleticism to volleyball. She's as explosive as any hitter in the state, and also utilizes her quickness and agility to defend. Pratt would love nothing more than to win a state title in her final season of volleyball with Miller by her side. She certainly showed that in this event with incredible court coverage. Lei-Butters keeps plays alive and helps get them back on course when they float out of system. She's strong in serve-receive and reads the attack well. Lei-Butters is a consistently good passer. She swings it well from the right side and puts up a lot of resistance as a blocker. Schmidt can defend in the back row, and set teammates up for kill attempts. It will be interesting to see what role she fills next season with the losses of Miller, Pratt and others. Cheeseman is at her best turning accurate passes into usable sets for the hitter, but she also sees the court very well and can convert off-target passes into offerings resulting in decent swings. She's a good athlete with long arms, which helps her be a threat on the attack. She generates a ton of power with her swing. Her jumping ability allows her to pick soft spots in the defense while hanging above the net. Greiner does a good job mixing up her kill attempts, and is a strong defender in the front row.
