Team Profile: Oletangy Orange

The Pioneers were the top selection among Division I teams in our recent poll voting for the program most likely to make the final weekend of the postseason. At 10-4 overall and ranked #4 in the current OHSAA poll, they earned 64% of the vote among our readers. They are unbeaten outside of tournament play with their losses coming at the hands of some of Ohio's best programs in Gilmour Academy, Lake Catholic, St. Ursula (Toledo) and Mount Notre Dame. At 4-0 in conference play, they will next take on Oletangy Liberty, also unbeaten in conference action. Here are some of the Pioneers' top contributors.    Any prospect committed to national power Texas is one to pay attention to. Cugino (*pictured) has been a rock for this program and her club team with her first-touch impact since her freshman season. She has a career average of over 17 digs per match with great attention to point flow and purposeful reaction and pursuit to create quality touches that ignite offensive opportunities. Her club team has won national titles and her competitive maturity and leadership could certainly be a reason why the Pioneers may arrive at the final stage with a shot to win a state crown when all is said and done.     One of Ohio's top setters in the 2026 class, Scholvin has been the key offensive catalyst through her distribution. At over eight assists per set, she creates a balanced attack as she has four hitters around here that average between 1.9 and 2.7 k/s. She is athletic, quick, and moves well in pursuit of the ball. Her impact is also felt in other areas as she picks up nine digs per match while applying good pressure at the service line as well, which includes five aces in their match versus SUA.     Gerboth is the Pioneers' top offensive threat at 2.7 k/s. The middle is earning more points this season than in 2023 while her efficiency has sustained itself at .339. She recently earned her season high of 12 kills in their 3-0 win over Hilliard Bradley. As this team's primary middle around their setter, Gerboth can score through varied attack points with good movement off one foot overhead. She has some incredible competitive experience being a member of one of the nation's best club teams at Mintonette.     Coomer has been a bright spot offensively through her first season of significant action as an attacker. At 2.6 k/s she is showing good command and control of her opportunity to swing as she can move the ball around in response to the block and to find some space with range. Defensively, she adds nearly 10 digs per match while leading the team in service aces, making her a significant factor with the scope of her tools.     McAtee provides the best pin length at 5'11. She is averaging 2.0 k/s through a .222 efficiency. Now in her junior season, she has already surpassed her production from a season ago and is helping the Pioneers' corps of offensive tools win by committee. As she continues to gain more experience as a viable option in their offense, look for her confidence and production to continue to elevate.
