KSHSAA has announced the quadrant assignments for class 3A regional play.

Here is a quick preview of the brackets in Regional Two. Matches are scheduled for October 21 and I have featured one prospect to watch in each quadrant.

This is the third preview of the four Class 3A regionals. Look for a preview of Regional Three tomorrow along with updated rankings for the Kansas Class of 2026.

Quadrant A: Girard (Host), West Franklin, Iola, Columbus

[player_tooltip player_id='523690' first='Maddie' last='Coester'], 5'10”, OH, Girard, ‘26

Coester is currently ranked No. 140 overall in the class of 2026. I have yet to see her play in person, and based on her stats she is probably under-ranked. She has collected 331 kills in 87 sets to lead the Trojans. Girard is the No. 1 overall seed in this region. The Trojans have multiple wins over Columbus but have not played West Franklin or Iola.

Quadrant B: Frontenac (Host), Jayhawk Linn, Burlington, Osawatomie

[player_tooltip player_id='492583' first='Lucy' last='Anderson'], 5'7”, OH, Frontenac, ‘26 (Pictured Above)

Anderson participated in the last Prep Dig Showcase in Kansas. She is currently ranked No. 61 overall in the class of 2026. She was impressive at the Showcase and worked hard. She leads the Raiders in kills with 301 in 85 sets. Frontenac is the No. 2 overall seed in this region. They have just nine losses this season, but four of those have come to Girard, something to put in the back of your mind if both teams advance to sub-state.

Quadrant C: Riverton (Host), Prairie View, Baxter Springs, Osage City

[player_tooltip player_id='530227' first='Avery' last='Barnett'], 5'7”, MB, Riverton, ‘27

Usually, I make it down to southeast Kansas at least once a season, but this fall I traveled west more than ever. Barnett is another SEK athlete I have missed and is ranked too low. She is currenlty ranked No. 114 in the class of 2027. She leads the Rams in kills with 260 in 87 sets. She is a multi-sport prospect who also plays basketball and softball. Riverton is the No. 3 overall seed in this region.

Quadrant D: Galena (Host), Humboldt, Anderson County Cherryvale

[player_tooltip player_id='493375' first='Shelby' last='Shaughnessy'], 5'7”, MB, Humboldt, ‘25

Humboldt is the No. 5 seed overall in this region. Their leader in kills is Shaughnessy, who is ranked No. 179 overall in the class of 2025. She has registered 246 kills and 257 digs in 66 sets. Galena is the No. 4 seed overall and the host of this quadrant. Galena is where I got my start in coaching over 25 years ago. With a record of 22-9, it looks like the program has come along way. The Bulldogs were on a four-year winless run when I was there in 1997.
