Beyond the rankings, we will be taking a look at how things are breaking down in the Class of 2025. This will include recruiting class rankings, conference breakdowns, a look at the Class of 2024 combined with the Class of 2025, and what the future could potentially look like at the next level The data nerd in me loves to see what patterns are starting, what changes are happening in the world of recruiting, and what does this mean for volleyball.

Big Ten Boom

At a quick glance, the numbers are consistent from the Class of 2024 to the Class of 2025…aside from the Big Ten. The Big Ten increased their number of commits from 38 in 2024 to 51 with the Class of 2025. A fourth of the “Top 200” are going to be heading to the Big Ten. The Class of 2024 commits heading to Oregon, UCLA, USC, and Washington were factored into the 2024 numbers. However, the Class of 2025 would have been recruited knowing they were going to be playing in the Big Ten. There will be some Midwest athletes heading to the West Coast knowing they would get some matches back home. Kansas City kids Abigail Mullen and Reese Messer who have had decorated careers for Dynasty Volleyball Club will be heading West, headlining a star studded class for USC. Oregon was able to gain one of the top outside hitters in the Midwest with Logan Bell out of Indianapolis, Circle City Volleyball Club. UCLA is also having a Midwest presence with two defensive specialists in Sakura Codling who plays for Tri State Elite in Ohio and Lauren Cortina out of Chicagoland who plays for Adversity. On the flip side there are California kids heading to the Midwest with Jaidyn Jager out of the San Diego area and Coast Volleyball Club heading to Indiana. Manaia Ogbechie is a middle blocker out of California who has been soaring up the radar and will join one of the top recruiting classes for Nebraska. Arizona will also have a presence in the Big Ten with the number one recruit Teraya Sigler going to Nebraska, Alyssa Aguayo to Illinois, and Makena Rumple to Iowa.

New Name Ready For SEC Play

The SEC is led by traditional power Texas with seven commits in the top 200. However, a new program is making big waves. Vanderbilt. Coach Anders Nelson, who was an assistant at Kentucky prior to taking the reins for Vanderbilt has been hard on the recruiting path bringing in elite athletes from across the country. They have six coming in from the Class of 2025 where they are establishing a pipeline to Texas and California with the likes of [player_tooltip player_id='720706' first='Sydney' last='Bryant'] ([program_tooltip program_id='431166' first='Houston' last='Juniors']), [player_tooltip player_id='179890' first='Taylor' last='Porter'] ([program_tooltip program_id='510661' first='Houston' last='Skyline']), and Ariel Chime (Coast). Vandy will have their inaugural season fall of 2025.

The ACC, the Coast to Coast Conference

Five years ago Louisville and Pittsburgh were just starting to build, now they are at the top of the mountain going after top prospects across the country. Now add Stanford and SMU into the mix and they will look to make waves across the conference. Pittsburgh struck gold with the Class of 2023 with Olivia Babcock and Torrey Stafford out of Sunshine VBC in California. Louisville loads up again with their top prospect being pin attacker Chloe Meester out of Iowa. Stanford brings in another talented class with one of the top setter/right sides in the country with Logan Parks out of Kansas City, middles Erika Sayer (Colorado Juniors) and Reese Dunkle (Circle City), and one of the top attackers out of California in Kaci DeMaria. A team to watch that will be making waves with this Class of 2024 is Notre Dame. Coach Salima Rockwell in class is bringing in plenty of physicality and athleticism from the state of Texas with [player_tooltip player_id='525236' first='Chichi' last='Nnaji'] and [player_tooltip player_id='179921' first='Sophia' last='Thornburg'] out of the Dallas area where they both played for Skyline. They also have to California kids in setter Maya Baker (Vision) and Maya Evens (Wave).
