Rounding out my previews of some of the state's top 2028 volleyball players is complete with the following top defenders.

[player_tooltip player_id='729564' first='Brittan' last='Smith'] – Libero – Kickapoo

Brittan came into the season with massive shoes to fill, and she did just that. Brittan finished as the digs leader in Class 5 for all 2028 players with 388. She is an incredible crosscourt defender with a lot of speed and reads the hitters well. Kickapoo lost an outstanding libero, and Brittan is the next great libero.

Olivia Pocock – Libero – William Chrisman

They put Olivia anywhere on the court, and she succeeds. The tiny and mighty libero/DS for the Bears finished the season with 228 digs and a top passer. With more experience and off-season training, she will be the best player for William Chrisman.

[player_tooltip player_id='729587' first='Sloane' last='Fende'] – DS – St. Teresa's Academy

No matter where she is put to play defense, the STA coaches know that Sloane will get the job done. She is a quick defender who finished the season with 215 digs, mainly playing right back or left back. With work for MAVS in the off-season, I'm not surprised that she will be the starting libero for the Stars next season.

[player_tooltip player_id='729533' first='Eleanor' last='Reisch'] – Outside – St. Teresa's Academy

Eleanor can play various positions for the Stars, and if not for a team stacked on defense, Eleanor could be a fantastic libero. Instead, she bombs from the outside, plays tremendous defense, and has a great jump float. She finished as the team's top passer, 2nd in kills with 202 and 3rd in digs with 204. After a season with Dynasty, you know Eleanor will return better than ever.

[player_tooltip player_id='694931' first='Lyla' last='Hedges'], Alivia Saultz, and Holly Clements – Fort Osage

This trio of 2028s will have Fort Osage battling for a district championship before they graduate. Alivia and Holly are the left-pin bangers who finished with 306 kills, while Alivia and Lyla racked up 405 digs. Lyla should get her chance to be the starting libero for the Indians next year.
