Mineral Area 16 is off to a great start to the club season. I caught MAVBC 16 play during my breaks at the last two weekends of Gateway League and walked away impressed with the team's play and ability to play at a high level. While I never got to watch them play an entire game, from what I watched, they have assembled a solid team. Here are some highlights of some players that stood out to me for MAVBC 16 National.

[player_tooltip player_id='544680' first='Ella' last='Pierce'] – 5'11” – Middle – Farmington

Ella is a versatile middle that can hit on either pin but does most of the work in the middle. She is a long 5'11” with a long wingspan and moves quickly to the pins. She can terminate on the right pin as well as in the middle. She is versatile enough to play the opposite and be very successful. Her experience in the middle will help her transition into that role at Farmington, who lost a lot of height but also both middles.

[player_tooltip player_id='485570' first='Eden' last='Robart'] – 6'0” – Outside – Potosi

After winning the state championship at Potosi, Eden is looking to keep up the hard-hitting throughout the club season. I like that she plays six-rotation and middle-back defense, helping elevate her game even more. She hits on the left pin and can terminate anywhere on the court. A powerful swing can overtake her opponents. Her experience passing and playing defense will help her make an easy transition this fall. She will have a massive role in the success of Potosi, and she is looking to make a repeat trip to the final four.

[player_tooltip player_id='515744' first='Macyn' last='McCarthy'] – 5'2” – Libero – Potosi

I watched Macyn at the state tournament and was impressed with her performance. However, she looked like a different player when I watched her at the Gateway League. She has significantly improved in her passing, and her defense is nasty. She is all over the court, not afraid to hit the floor for balls, more assertive on her passing, and defensively solid.

[player_tooltip player_id='544678' first='Adalynn' last='Gibson'] – 5'5” – Setter – Potosi

Adalynn will have a huge role next year at Potosi and is working hard during club to lead her team from the setter position. Her tempo sets to the left pin are quick and on point. She runs a fast tempo to the middle and moves the ball around exceptionally well. She's also a tough defender with a motor that doesn't quit. I really liked how quickly she got that ball out to her big bombers on the outside.

Eve Litton – 5'7” – Middle – Potosi

When I watched Potosi play in the final four, I could see that Eve had the potential to be a solid middleman for the Trojans. When I caught MAVBC at the Gateway League, she was another player I could see a difference in her play from early November. She might be playing with her age group, giving her more confidence, but her play has improved. An undersized middle who uses her vertical and hangtime to make up for the height. She has a tough serve and is quicker than a few months ago. She will have a much more prominent role come high school season.

Ella Jo Jokerst – 5'9” – Opposite/Setter – Festus

A multipurpose player plays the opposite and can step into a set when needed. When I watched her play in Gateway League, she helped run the offense and played much more significantly on the right pin than her listed height. She has great hands, is quick on defense, and has a very high contact point on her attack, allowing her to use her hands often. I'm looking for her to be a big-time player at Festus after getting some big-time experience with MAVBC.

Kylie Woods – 5'5” – Outside – Farmington

She might be 5'5”, but the kid can jump out of the gym, and her approach and swing are ferocious. You will hear much about this kid at Farmington over the next two years. She should move right into a six-rotation outside hitter for the Knights. She puts everything into her approach and swing, making her so fun to watch. I can't wait to see what she can do.
