The L2 Club has been able to land some talented prospects to its young program over the years. One of their classes they've really been able to emphasize is the Class of 2026.

This year, L2's 171 squad is a group of talented 2026 players that all are eager to take their game to another height and show that they can play at the college level.

This year's team is coached by Scott Johnson and Madelyn Betts and will do their part to give every opponent in the state a real challenge.

Outsides Can Shoulder The Load

Looking at the L2 171 roster, you notice right away the ability and potential of their pin hitters. Just three on the roster, it includes [player_tooltip player_id='261208' first='Skylar' last='Marteen'], a right side the proved to be a big aid in Northville winning the state championship this fall. However, Marteen suffered a knee injury during the playoffs, leaving her availability this year in question. Because of that, it will be up to [player_tooltip player_id='449093' first='Skyye' last='Frailey'] and [player_tooltip player_id='537079' first='Kaylyn' last='Tuck'] to take on a lot of the workload on the outside. That shouldn't be a problem for either, as they have grown into very capable hitters. Frailey has been a six-rotation option at the varsity level for years, while Tuck is in line to become a big role player for Northville in 2025 after playing a complimentary role this fall. Each is very explosive, but polished to make plays in all phases of the game.

Explosive Middles

L2's outsides will be complimented by some very capable middles that can take over a match. [player_tooltip player_id='487079' first='Jillian' last='Gibbs'], [player_tooltip player_id='261135' first='Clare' last='Beazley'] and [player_tooltip player_id='445679' first='Taylor' last='Dahms'] all bring good length to the net, but each also has their own strengths. Dahms stands 6'3” and can be a real disruptive force defensively. She's improved on her footwork and quickness to be a more dynamic offensive option. Beazley can play with a lot of tempo and aggression, while Gibbs has a nice balance of control and power. Each has a lot of awareness and makes the tough plays at the net.

Setting, Defensive Control

L2 has a pair of setters it is working with in [player_tooltip player_id='226905' first='Delaney' last='Gilmore'] and [player_tooltip player_id='261202' first='Peyton' last='Lowes']. Both are comfortable court leaders that play in programs that have developed some top-level setters. That gives both a lot of knowledge and experience to rely on for big matchups that will be on the horizon. Addison Garl and [player_tooltip player_id='240701' first='Giselle' last='Burlingame'] will be the DS options for this squad. Burlingame is coming off a breakout fall season with Northville where she was the defensive leader for the state champ. She's got great instincts and technique and will be able to consistently keep her team in-system. Garl is a steady serving option that knows how to make a tough dig in a pressure situation as well.

Expectations

L2 got a good feel for where it has to improve this past weekend at The Nike Classic. The squad went 2-5 in the 17 Open, but played very competitive in most sets. In both victories, L2 had to pull out a third-set win, which speaks to their resiliency. They also had close sets with FaR Out 17 Black, one of the stronger club teams in the state at 17U. This team has all the talent to turn another gear this season, they just need to continue to gel and find out what is working best for their lineup. Once that takes place, expect some big-time victories.
