6 Emerging Class of 2028's to Watch

The Class of 2028 is already making waves in the Colorado volleyball scene, with several young standouts proving they have what it takes to compete at a higher level. From dominant middles to fearless liberos, these athletes are showcasing talent beyond their years. As they continue to develop, their names will become more and more familiar on the recruiting radar. Here are six emerging players from the 2028 class that you'll want to keep an eye on.    An absolute powerhouse, Gloessner is a top recruit in the 2028 class. As a freshman, she is 6'5” and plays up on [program_tooltip program_id='429639' first='Front' last='Range'] 16 Black. She also participated in the U15 USAV NTDP in 2024. Gloessner is quick, athletic, and reads well, able to turn the ball to make it around the opposing block.      Mayes is a phenomenal libero. She's playing club up an age division, in the 16's, but you would never know it just by watching her. She runs the back of the court and has a strong presence, and her team trusts her entirely to do her job, which she does spectacularly well. On top of being a solid defender, she also has a great attitude. In all the times I've watched her, I've never seen her not smiling.      Another top recruit who is playing up an age group, Lauer is a strong pin who has a bright future ahead of her in the sport of volleyball. She's tall and strong, allowing her to power through blocks with ease. Lauer earned All-State Honorable Mention following her freshman year high school season.      Deleon is a smart outside, able to place the ball where defenders aren't. She's an incredibly versatile player, and does a good job working with out-of-system sets, and has a great swing out of the middle when her setter gets a good pass. If she can speed up her arm swing, she will be a very strong outside.      On her recruiting profile, she lists herself as an OH/DS & Utility player, and she truly is a player who will do her job and do it well in whatever position she's thrown into. As a hitter, she does a good job making up for her lack of height by utilizing different shots and having a strong volleyball IQ to help her place the ball. As a defender in the back row, she reads very well, making defense look easy. Dempsey's true calling seems to be back row, but will work in a pinch to play front, making her very valuable.      Schmidt is an aggressive setter who plays with a lot of confidence for her age. In high school, she ran a 5-1, giving her the option to attack when she was front row. She's a tall setter earning a lot of good touches at such a young age. Keep an eye on her, she'll be a strong setter in the state in the coming years.
