The first play date for the 16s occurred last weekend and some high-level volleyball mixed with close battles led to an intense day of competition. After five matches, Mavs KC 16-1 and KC [program_tooltip program_id='428794' first='Power' last=''] 16-1 emerged with records unblemished but it wasn't an easy day for either team. The Mavs had four sets go extra points and had three of their matches go three. They showed great resiliency, especially after taking a beat down in set one versus Dynasty, losing 25-12. They returned to win the second 26-24 before escaping with a set three win 15-9. St. Michael's [player_tooltip player_id='396499' first='Kinley' last='Gillihan'] had a strong day for the Mavs. She continues to show improvement in her game with her decision-making and IQ. They had times when they were in full control throughout the day with some lopsided wins. [player_tooltip player_id='446328' first='Tori' last='Massengill'] continues her excellent play from the high school season, finding ways to score and affect the game defensively. Dynasty 16-1 had a solid day, going 4-1 with the heartbreaking loss to Mavs after making a statement in the first set. Besides also going three against PVA 16-1, they were dominant. [player_tooltip player_id='524854' first='Elizabeth' last='Weaver'] is a 6'1" opposite attending Pembroke Hill who brings a level of physicality to the net.

PVA 16-1, Mavs KC 16-2, and Pohaku 16-1 all stayed above .500 on the day going 3-2. All of their defeats came to the aforementioned teams. The next play date is scheduled for March 9th but expect to see a handful of these teams in action next weekend at the Triple Crown Sports National Invitational Tournament on February 15-17th in Kansas City.
