I was able to watch several games at the Key City Clash in both the 15 and 16 divisions. There was a wide range of skills on display during both pool and bracket play…with a ton of hustle and determination by all. I like watching the younger players compete as it is fun to see who is already ahead in skills, who has potential, and to form a base line of certain player's skills. This allows me to check back on athletes again during future club and high school seasons to see how much their games have grown and developed. The following are a few players that made it into my notebook for one reason or another - either it was great plays, great sets, great games, or they were just simply all around gems on the court.

Wernimont impressed at the Key City Clash running a 5-1 and varying up her offense. She is a smart setter that was able to connect with her middles off the net, pushed the ball to the pins, and unload carefully placed setter dumps to keep the defense on their toes. Vernimont was also a great server that was able to score her team multiple points and keep the opposition out of system.

Casberg is a scrappy 6 rotation outside that impressed at the Key City Clash. She used her big vertical, quick speed, and hitting versatility to put down numerous shots. She also knows how to attack using the opposing blockers hands to generate points. Casberg also was stellar in the backcourt. She covered the corners well and dug up several hard hit attacks.

Jerome is a versatile middle that can do many things well. She transitions quickly, can hit the quick ball out of the middle, and also terminate from the right side. Jerome also read the ball well on defense and had good footwork to maneuver effectively from side to side to put up a solid block.

Mullin was hard to miss as she dominated from the pin the entire tournament. This girl can hit! She has a quick transition, is explosive in her approach, and hits at a high contact that makes her hard to stop…which teams found out repeatedly. Mullin also was solid in playing off blocker defense and was able to transition quickly off these passes in order to be an attacking option and put down hard shots.

Playing as a 6 rotation outside, there is much expected of you. Olesevich rose to the challenge, delivered, and had an overall great tournament. Olesevich is one of those attackers that reads the block in front of her well and adjusts. She knew when to hit power, when to power tip or roll to the corners, and when to tip over the block or to the center of the court. She was able to avoid the block and score her team many points.

Peterson is a scrappy libero that helped her team win the 15u championship. She created great angles when passing and knew how to cover her attackers in order to give her team second chance attack options. She was highly effective on defense due to the fact that she read the opposing teams hitters well and had a quick first step ensuring that she reached many of those carefully placed tips and dumps.
