People often rave about big attackers or those defenders that come up with big digs. While they are fun to watch, setters are by far my favorite as I think they they have one of the hardest jobs on the court. Not only do they have learn to anticipate the ball, read defenses, work on their own setting skills, but they also have to learn and understand who to set, where to set, and what type of set to deliver. When I was watching the tournament this weekend, these setters all impressed for many of those reasons. Below are some of the sensational setters that ruled the court at the Siouxland Showdown this past weekend.

Van Hal impressed at the showdown. She was poised, consistent, and knew how to spread out her offense and get all of her attackers involved. Van Hal is also powerful, knows how to isolate her attackers, and set with a tempo that was hard for opposing teams to keep up with. She was also an offense-minded, lefty that threw down attacks herself on the second ball which further frustrated opponents.

Van Den Bosch displayed great leadership and court vision this past weekend at the Siouxland Showdown. She read the defensive well, made great setting choices, and was able to isolate many of her attackers for one on one opportunities. She also is an attackers dream as she moved quickly to get her feet to the ball and delivered consistent, clean sets to her pins and middles.

Luze is a young setter that played at a level beyond 15u. Running a 5-1, Luze was strong, can push the ball to her pins, and find her middles when in transition. She worked hard 100% of the time and displayed a high game IQ. She was a great leader on the court and communicated well with her team. Luze is going to be one to watch as she continues to grow and develop her game.

Bethke is a young setter with a ton of potential. She worked hard this weekend, moved swiftly to track down balls, and delivered many hittable balls to her attackers. Running a 5-1, Bethke withstood the pressure in tense moments and continued to be a leader on the court.

Arens is an aggressive, lefty setter. She successfully ran an effective 5-1 offensive. She had good hands that aided in her delivery of a consistent, clean ball to her attackers. She is also strong and delivered the ball to the pin instead of delivering sets that died early. Arens also attacked herself on the second ball which only frustrated her opponents and generated many kills.

I love it when setters are bold and I believe Sebeniecher was one of the boldest on the weekend. She delivered numerous on-point reversals that were not only impressive but led to many successful kills. She had super quick movements, good court vision, and moved the ball around to all of her attackers well. All around A+ effort on the weekend.

Frandson is super agile and can get to nearly everything. I was really impressed with her net play. Balls that are delivered too close were no challenge for her. She read the ball well, moved quickly, adjusted, and deliver perfectly located sets with two hands or with just one. Frandson also had a quick release which made it hard for opposing teams to read her and thus, left her attackers with several one on one opportunities to score.
