We’re on a run of setters in this one. Frandson and River City Jrs 17 Navy nearly repeated last year’s undefeated run through AAU Nationals. That’s enough to cement an athlete’s stock-riser status, but Frandson’s consistent excellence through the long club grind has also been notable. Her leadership boosted 17 Navy’s offense, whether it was at AAU Nationals or the Midwest Power League. Frandson could shoulder various roles in her final season at Millard West.

Frandson is no stranger to big stages. Of course, we have to reference her division championship at AAU Nationals last summer. Then, her Millard West High School squad had a dramatic resurgence en route to the Class A tournament. Frandson has now resumed her role setting the talent-rich River City Jrs 17 Navy squad, which logged a podium finish in Omaha. This savvy setter knows how to put her hitters in good positions and will be a name to watch in more high-level venues.

Frandson is super agile and can get to nearly everything. I was really impressed with her net play. Balls that are delivered too close were no challenge for her. She read the ball well, moved quickly, adjusted, and deliver perfectly located sets with two hands or with just one. Frandson also had a quick release which made it hard for opposing teams to read her and thus, left her attackers with several one on one opportunities to score.

River City Jrs 17 Navy was a focal point of our Sunday morning coverage, and Frandson was one of the earliest standouts from this championship-winning group. The Millard West junior displayed scrappy play and steady leadership that won her team an AAU title last summer. Frandson handled the wide variety of crossing patterns deployed by 17 Navy at Sunday’s event, making this a tough in-system squad to stop.

Frandson is one of two setters instrumental in River City Jrs 16 Navy’s championship triumph. We identified this Millard West standout as a player to watch heading into the event, but we couldn’t have anticipated a flawless 14-0 run in Orlando. Offensive firepower led the way for 16 Navy, and Frandson consistently set up those hitters with perfect tempo and location. What a dramatic step forward for Frandson and her squad.

Millard West has given us glimpses at what Frandson can do while running the offense. It’s also worth going back and looking at River City Jrs tape, where Frandson made a big splash there during the club season. It’s hard to break into the starting rotation as an underclassman setter, but Frandson has demonstrated her readiness for the spotlight when her number is called.
