As I watched hockey and baseball on this somewhat chilly day in Topeka, I felt like featuring the libero position.

With college coaches lining up to sign setters and middle hitters, it is a position that does not get the deserved attention.

Here are four liberos flying under the radar and ranked in the middle of the pack in their respective class rankings.

[player_tooltip player_id='731454' first='Addison' last='Watson'], 5'2”, DS/L, Osage City '26

Watson is a three-sport prospect who I watched play basketball this winter. She is the primary setter for Osage City, but I think her future at the college level is as a libero or utility defender. She is athletic as heck and is enjoyable to watch no matter which sport she is playing. She finished her junior season with 545 assists and 255 digs. She is ranked No. 71 overall by Prep Dig Kansas and, to my knowledge, is still uncommitted.

[player_tooltip player_id='731463' first='Ava' last='Kaiser'], 5'7”, DS/L, Great Bend , ‘26

Great Bend is a program loaded with talent. Any college coach or scout watching the Panthers will find three or four prospects who can play college ball. Kaiser falls into that category, but she is the athlete who could get overlooked. She finished with 353 digs and 457 serve receptions as a junior. She communicates well and makes the tough dig. She is currently ranked No. 96 overall in the Kansas Class of 2026.

[player_tooltip player_id='483944' first='Bennett' last='Jacobs'], 5'4”, DS/L, Ellinwood, ‘27

Jacobs should be on many radars, but she is in a similar situation as Kaiser. She plays on a solid club with imposing players in key roles. She finished her sophomore season with 343 digs in 102 sets played. She is a multiple-sport prospect who also plays softball and basketball. Jacobs is ranked No. 66 overall in the Kansas Class of 2027.

[player_tooltip player_id='530336' first='Sydnee' last='Sleichter'], 5'0”, DS/L, Santa Fe Trail, ‘27

Another libero who has had a solid sophomore campaign at the varsity level is Trail's Sleichter. She racked up an impressive total of dig with 441 in 90 sets played last fall. She also recorded 200 serve receptions and 59 assists. She is ranked No. 128 overall by Prep Dig Kansas. She is also a softball player who pitches and roams centerfield.
