Team Spotlight: Rogue 17 GO

This Rogue 17 GO team has some good athletes throughout their rotation, with good athleticism, length and range among some of their hitters and good stability in their skill positions. You can next see them compete at JVA Summerfest in Columbus, OH at the end of this month.    Nicholas is explosive. Her fast-twitch athleticism is a key to her offensive success as she can get up quickly to get on the ball through both middle and pin options. She can play well above the net on both sides of the ball. As impressive as she is to drive the ball to the court offensively, she can block with good mechanics and authority in how she gets up quickly with her hands across the tape.     O'Malley has experience and skill as a libero as she has been a key factor for Bishop Hartley for her first three seasons with a total of 686 digs for a career average of 12.7 d/m. She has improved her output each season and is poised to have an impressive finish regarding her contributions. She has simple action in her movement with good composure, which is critical to her success in her reaction and control to ignite her team's offense.     Wideman is a good athlete and has all-around skills to be able to contribute to this team's effort in a variety of ways. But, it is her setting that is the biggest impact as they have varied options that can score when they can create opportunities with their passing and defense. Wideman moves well and gets balanced to be able to control force and location well whether in the pocket or on the move.     Stenger, at 6'0, brings good size on the left side of the court. As she continues to grow her passing and defense, she is becoming a more effective and complete prospect to improve her impact and ability to stay on the court through the full rotation and make plays. She has earned over 500 total kills for Hilliard Darby with her best output in 2024 at 2.3 k/s. Look for her to have another solid high school season in 2025.     Nickey is a 6'0 lefty opposite with fluid approach movement and ability to take big swings. She uses a big runway when hitting that helps her to create space and swing aggressively. Her power production comes from her shoulders being open well to the ball, while she also uses good vision to throw in some touch and finesse to exploit space and keep the defense off balance.     The 6'0 Lipscomb is a very capable middle in her ability to be an offensive option around her setter. She has developed a good range of her movement and attacking patterns that make her difficult to track defensively. With good space and timing she can contact high while also controlling her arm action to swing at the edges of the court or through space at the net. I think she still has a lot of untapped potential given the glimpses of big actions she has shown offensively.
