Five Must-Know Players from the JVA West Coast Cup

This premier event, presented by Nike, showcased top girls' volleyball clubs across divisions 14U–18U, drawing teams from California and neighboring states. Open to AAU, USAV, and JVA-affiliated teams, the tournament featured both Premier and Club divisions, with pool play on Saturday and Sunday, followed by bracket play on Monday.   While SCVA, NCVA, and USAV events have long dominated the California volleyball scene, the JVA continues to establish its footprint as a premier national event operator, making waves on the West Coast with high-level play and standout athletes. At the JVA West Coast Cup, several athletes stood out for their exceptional performances. Here are five players who made a lasting impression:    [player_tooltip player_id='722029' first='Trenai' last='Blaylock'] is a focused middle blocker with a commanding presence at the net. Her blocking posture is disciplined, and she consistently challenges opponents with aggressive, high-level play. Her serve is fantastic further expanding her value on the court. Off the court, Trenai is equally driven, with aspirations to study law or business. Right now, she's prioritizing her vertical and refining her fundamentals. With consistent gym work, she's developing the strength and explosiveness needed to take her game to the next level. She believes that true growth comes from mastering the details and brings that mindset into every rep. For Trenai, being a teammate goes beyond performance it means arriving early, staying engaged, lifting others up, and respecting everyone's role, including her coach's.   Playing college volleyball would be a major milestone, not just for Trenai, but for her family as well. She hopes to compete at the NCAA level and would be the first in her family to achieve this goal. At the same time, she recognizes that any college opportunity is an honor and is deeply grateful for the chance to continue playing. Trenai leads with resilience and energy, always making sure her teammates know she's fully invested no matter the score. Her mindset is rooted in effort, loyalty, and the belief that no match is ever truly over until the final whistle. ~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247     Ezri Karp demonstrates strong athleticism and precise timing, especially when capitalizing on overpasses. With two years of experience in the middle, she brings a steady presence to the net and reads the game well. Her background in water polo and beach volleyball adds to her versatility and enhances her court awareness. Ezri is currently focused on improving her blocking and hitting technique, while also developing her court vision and volleyball IQ. Her 4.2 GPA reflects a disciplined, well-rounded student-athlete who commits fully to both academics and athletics.   Ezri leads by example, consistently encouraging her teammates and striving to be a supportive presence both on and off the court. She values what it means to be a good teammate and takes that responsibility seriously. Playing college volleyball would be a dream realized, an opportunity to continue doing what she loves at a high level and a powerful reminder that hard work pays off. For Ezri, joining a collegiate volleyball program also means becoming part of a passionate community that shares her drive and love for the game. ~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247     Paige Clarke brings a deep understanding of the game, shaped by years of experience since the age of eight and a consistent habit of studying game film. She has a strong serve, quick transitions, and high-level hustle at the setter position. Her background in soccer contributes to her agility and strategic decision-making, helping her excel in fast-paced situations. Paige is currently focused on refining her set distribution and continuing to grow as a leader on the court. With a 3.8 GPA, she demonstrates the discipline to balance academic and athletic responsibilities at a high level.   Leadership is a key part of Paige's identity as a setter. She leads vocally and works to keep her hitters confident and aggressive throughout a match. Her energy and communication help drive momentum and build trust. For Paige, playing college volleyball is a dream she is fully committed to and one she pursues with purpose, embracing each opportunity to learn and grow along the way. ~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247     Abby Sims stood out from the start, catching attention during warm-ups with her strong setting skills and athleticism. She maintains a fast tempo and makes smart decisions, highlighting her readiness and team-first mentality. Abby is currently focused on becoming more offensive at the net, looking for scoring opportunities on the second ball, and sharpening her defense with disciplined back-row play. Her mindset reflects the value of preparation and a willingness to step up at any moment.   Abby leads through energy and example, giving full effort in every moment and expecting the same in return. She takes pride in covering her hitters and building their confidence to swing aggressively, knowing she'll be there to back them up. Off the court, she stays vocal and supportive, bringing consistent energy and intensity that lifts her teammates. For Abby, playing college volleyball is a chance to keep competing at a high level while continuing to experience the deep joy and connection the sport brings. Her track background is evident in her explosiveness and blocking ability, making her a dynamic force on both offense and defense. She is currently focused on becoming more consistent and efficient at the pin by refining her approach timing, hitting smarter angles, and improving her ability to attack around the block. She is also dedicating extra time to serve receive and back row defense in order to become a more complete player who contributes in all six rotations. Cherish wants to be the kind of teammate her team can rely on in high-pressure moments.   She leads with energy, composure, and purpose. Whether her team is winning or facing adversity, Cherish brings positivity through her body language, vocal support, and focused communication. As a pin hitter in a visible role, she understands the responsibility to set the tone, lift others up, and celebrate every effort. For Cherish, playing college volleyball means everything. It is the culmination of years of hard work and a chance to keep growing in the game she loves.
