Close to 50 athletes competed at John Lance Arena yesterday during the first of two elite camps hosted by Pittsburg State University.

One of the best moments of being a scout is when you see an athlete for the first time that you have never heard of. It's almost like opening a Christmas Present.

There were several young athletes in Pittsburg that I was not aware of before this event, especially from Southeast Kansas schools. I just don't get down to that part of the state enough during the prep season.

Prep Dig Player Profiles have been created for each athlete, and each athlete will be included in the next round of rankings updates.

Athletes are encouraged to claim their profiles and add a photo, contact information, and video highlights for college coaches and scouts to access. Here is the link to claim a Prep Dig profile: https://prepdig.com/prospect-index/#claim-profile-anchor

Athletes with complete profiles do get a slight advantage in the rankings during their early years.

[player_tooltip player_id='784348' first='Berkley' last='McKinley'], 5'9”, OH/MB, Cheney, ‘27

I am familiar with several football players from Cheney, but not many volleyball players. McKinley made the long drive east to participate in the camp. I was impressed with her quickness and coachability. She was one of the few unranked athletes at the event with public stats available. She finished with 73 kills and 35 blocks during her sophomore campaign for the Cardinals. Having those stats available allowed me to focus on her early during the event.

[player_tooltip player_id='784067' first='Kadence' last='Underhill'], 5'10”, MB/RS, Baxter Springs, '28

Underhill's physicality is what I noticed right off the bat. She was hanging with the older net monsters at the event. She has a long reach and some sand in her game. She also impressed me by going in and creating her own Prep Dig profile, before I had a chance to do so this morning. That shows me she is taking this sport and her recruitment seriously.

[player_tooltip player_id='784351' first='Autumn' last='Neblett'], 5'10”, MB, Oswego, '28

Neblett was another young middle who impressed me. She is not as physical as Underhill, but maybe is a step quicker. She took full advantage of the camp instruction and was not intimidated by older athletes in attendance.

[player_tooltip player_id='784352' first='Brynna' last='Peter'], 5'6”, OH/DS, Chanute, '28

Chanute had four athletes registered for this event, and Peter stood out among the four. She played with a ton of confidence and energy. She has natural athleticism and a solid defensive platform. She competes for [program_tooltip program_id='428876' first='Club' last='MVP'] during the club season, and I could tell she has been coached up on the fundamentals of the game. She seemed to be the most comfortable of the four Blue Comet athletes on this particular stage.

[player_tooltip player_id='784353' first='Perry' last='Haines'], 5'9”, OH/S, Circle, '29

Haines was the only member of the Class of 2029 preregistered for the event. That alone speaks volumes about her commitment to volleyball. Circle is a program that produces solid college-level talent, which will enhance her recruitment. She is athletic and was not intimidated by the level of competition in the gym.
