History With Your Sports Report (Free Report)

Happy Independence Day, Prep Dig Nation.
Sports and history have always been my passion.
I have taught US History at three different levels, coached three different sports, and yes, I contribute to three Prep Network Kansas websites.
As I continue to heal up from my second round of fighting against COVID, I thought I would add a little history with my scouting report today in honor of Independence Day.
Here is a look at six ranked Kansas volleyball athletes. You will pick up on the theme.
While I have never stepped foot in Brooklyn, it’s deep with tradition. Pee Wee Reese and Jackie Robinson played for the historic Brooklyn Dodger before the organization moved to the West Coast.

is a talented hitter who has excelled on the USA Volleyball club scene and for her Northwest Grizzlies. She has verbally committed to play college ball Washburn University. Have a hot dog or two today Brooklyn! Benoit is ranked No. 18 overall in the Kansas Class of 2026.

One of the iconic women in American History is Molly Pitcher. All grade school kids are taught about Miss Pitcher, or at one time they were, but few could tell you that the American Revolutionary Heroine was named Mary Ludwig Hays. Shanee Mission East’s Molly has an arm like a cannon and is the kind of teammate willing to fetch some water for thirsty teammates. McDonald is ranked No. 39 overall in the Kansas Class of 2026.

Georgia is a state rich in history and tradition. Which includes the depiction of the fall of Atlanta in Gone With The Wind, and the powerful baseball swing of Hank Aaron. Another “Georgia” with a sweet swing in Bishop Miege’s LeMay. She is ranked No. 26 overall by Prep Dig Kansas. She missed last season with an ACL injury. I don’t know if she can croon like Ray Charles, but this Georgia has put in the rehab work to be ready for the big stage this fall.

There are not many First Ladies more well-known than Dolly Madison. While her role in saving historical artifacts during the burning of Washington is a bit over exaggerated, you could never underestimate the tastiness of those little snack cakes! Maximuk protects the net for Blue Valley, like Madison protected her husband, and like Tigers protect their cubs. She collected 151 kills and 54 blocks during her sophomore campaign. She is ranked No. 44 overall in the Kansas Class of 2027.

Whether it is John, Jackie, or Bobby, the name Kennedy still resonates across the land. I think I would be crushed under the pressure of that being my first name, but not Duson. She just crushes volleyball like someone just told her Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. Duson is coming off an excellent club season and will be chomping at the bit to get back on a court after the July Moratorium. She is ranked No. 34 overall in the Kansas Class of 2028.

This connection for me was even a bit of a stretch, but I made it right away as I perused the Prep Dig Kansas rankings searching for athletes to profile. Major General Irvin McDowell, is the forgotten leader in the Army of the Potomac during the Civil War. His 1 Corps was defeated at the First Battle of Bull Run. De Soto’s McDowell is too good to be forgotten. She has a mean swing, but her blood runs Wildcat Green rather Union Blue. She recorded 95 kills and 14 blocks at the varsity level last season and is ranked No. 125 overall in the Kansas Class of 2028.
