After almost eight months of intense action around the country, the club volleyball season came to an end a few weeks ago, with the USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championship taking place in Dallas.

The prospects from Texas won't, however, have a lot of time to breathe and relax after defending their club teams, as, in just over a month, on August 11, the high school volleyball season is about to begin in the Lone Star State, with the first matches of the University Interscholastic Legue (UIL) being held.

As in the past years, Prep Dig Texas will continue to follow the action closely in the Houston area, attending multiple matches every week and providing comprehensive coverage, with analysis, photos and social media posts from each of them.

It should be another exciting season, filled with highly-contested matches and strong individual performances, and, before August 11 arrives, we'll preview each district in the Houston area so you know exactly what to expect from each team competing:

District 23

Atascocita

Atascocita were the top team in the district last season, going undefeated with 14 victories and only three sets lost. The Lady Eagles got a ticket to the Division 1 Playoffs and survived the first round of the postseason, but ended up falling to Ridge Point in the area round and completed their season with 27 wins and 12 losses. Middle Cherrish Robinson, libero Emily Olano and setter Emily Veiga were the only players to have graduated after the end of their last campaign. Junior outside hitters [player_tooltip player_id='534384' first='Jordan' last='Morrow'] and [player_tooltip player_id='805315' first='Tahlia' last='Parker'] and seniors [player_tooltip player_id='806596' first='Amiria' last='Anderson'] (right side), [player_tooltip player_id='815849' first='Kassidy' last='Warren'] (middle), [player_tooltip player_id='254153' first='Gracie' last='Williams'] (setter) and [player_tooltip player_id='251508' first='Chloe' last='Cotten'] (libero) will continue to be key pieces for the Lady Eagles in 2025.

Channelview

Channelview avoided the bottom of the standings in 2024 and finished seventh with a campaign of two wins and 12 losses. The Lady Falcons produced a season record of 12 victories and 21 defeats. Their graduating class had middle Christian Salazar, outside hitter Mia Mariscal and setter Bianca Tamez as the standouts. The team will rely heavily on seniors [player_tooltip player_id='805928' first='Lyrra' last='Moreau'] (outside hitter), [player_tooltip player_id='818545' first='Da'tayvia' last='Jones'] (middle), Vivian Arredondo (setter), and [player_tooltip player_id='797993' first='Amy' last='Garcia'] (libero) to achieve better results in the upcoming season.

Goose Creek Memorial

Goose Creek Memorial made it to the postseason last year after ranking fourth in the district with nine wins and five losses. The Patriots ended their season with 21 victories and 19 setbacks after competing in the Division 2 Playoffs and going down to Clear Springs in the bi-district round. Goose Creek Memorial lost their best player, middle Sanaa Donaie, and libero Annabella Delgado to graduation. Returning in 2025 will be senior setter/right side [player_tooltip player_id='822507' first='Lanae' last='Dubose'], senior outside hitter [player_tooltip player_id='838760' first='Kindall' last='Houston'], junior setter/right side Brooke Thomas and senior outside hitter/libero [player_tooltip player_id='838266' first='I'slyn' last='Edwards'].

Humble

Humble got close to making it to the playoffs last season, but came up short, ending up in fifth place in the district with six wins and eight losses. Despite not playing in the postseason, the Lady Wildcats had a solid 29-12 win record for the season. Their strong graduating class included outside hitters Trabrece Marbley and Amaris Marks and setters Alexa Gonzalez and Kylee Roberts. Without them, sophomore outside hitter [player_tooltip player_id='574238' first='Shelby' last='Huckaby'], senior middle Jackie Simpson and junior outside hitter [player_tooltip player_id='838346' first='Jaci' last='Casas'] will form the core of the team in 2025.

King

King secured a sixth-place finish in the district in 2024, completing their schedule with three wins and 11 losses. The Lady Panthers were considerably more successful against non-district opponents and had a positive 23-20 win record for the season. In 2025, the team will no longer have outside hitter Carmen Cooksey, middles Natalie Deleon and Jade Gentry, libero Emily Rivera and setter Regina Patino, who graduated. Senior outside hitter [player_tooltip player_id='838599' first='Karen' last='Jones'], senior middle [player_tooltip player_id='821401' first='Caitlynn' last='Tisdom'], junior outside hitter [player_tooltip player_id='839194' first='Meaghan' last='Stewart'] and junior setter [player_tooltip player_id='798477' first='Dawn' last='Parrish'] should all have bigger roles in the team in the upcoming season.

Kingwood

Kingwood had the third-best campaign in the district last year, getting 10 wins and four losses against their local rivals. The Lady Mustangs earned the right to compete in the Division 2 Playoffs, but were stopped early in the bi-district round by Clear Creek and saw their season end with 20 victories and 21 defeats. Kingwood graduated a strong senior class a few months ago, which had outside hitters Kynley Hewett and Natalie Aasen, middle Samantha Bivens, setter Kendra Sawyers and libero Julianna Kiliddjian as the standouts. Returning in 2025 will be senior setter [player_tooltip player_id='254134' first='Carly' last='Thomas'], senior setter/right side [player_tooltip player_id='443114' first='Avery' last='Brown'], sophomore outside hitter [player_tooltip player_id='727258' first='Grier' last='Nelson'] and senior outside hitter [player_tooltip player_id='834816' first='Addison' last='Doherty'].

North Shore

North Shore sat at the bottom of the district standings in 2024, ranking eighth after they got one win and 13 losses. The Lady Mustangs had a 6-28 win record for their season. Featuring a young roster last season, the team only lost three main contributors to graduation in liberos Danya Mims and Ariana Baines and right side Merron Hagos. Junior outside hitters Amaya Edwards and [player_tooltip player_id='777354' first='Morgan' last='Galloway'] and senior outside hitter Bria Taylor will lead the team at the net in 2025 and form the core of the team alongside senior libero Zyriah Hailey and junior setters Michele Oviedo and [player_tooltip player_id='727312' first='Madison' last='Gray'].

Summer Creek

Summer Creek were the second-best team in the district last year, producing an 11-3 win record during the season. The Lady Bulldogs were downed by Dickinson in the bi-district round of the Division 1 Playoffs, but still completed their campaign with a positive record of 22 wins and 21 losses. Leading their most recent graduating class were middle Emani Bean, outside hitter Jaden Smith, libero Zoie Burkhead and setter Sarai Reyna. In 2025, the Lady Bulldogs will count on junior right side [player_tooltip player_id='827055' first='Talia' last='Nelson'], senior middle [player_tooltip player_id='556160' first='Kennedy' last='Adams'], senior outside hitter [player_tooltip player_id='825674' first='Kenna' last='Harris'], senior libero [player_tooltip player_id='807720' first='Makayla' last='Smith'] and senior setter [player_tooltip player_id='805233' first='Ivy' last='Maxwell'] to continue to compete at the top of the table.
