We can see the finish line coming over the horizon in our 2A previews, with today's edition talking about the reigning 2A state champs---the Western Boone Stars. With all of the offense that was part of the Stars' identity last fall, this fall might be more based on defense and serve receive to stay in matches instead of the brute force brought by last year's roster. Here is my preview and prediction of Western Boone's '25 campaign.

Without a doubt, the fall of '24 was the best offensive iteration the Stars have ever put on the floor. Unfortunately, graduation happened, and out the door went their top two attackers (to Middle Tennessee State and Wake Forest), their libero and their setter (who had 1100+ assists in '24). There's a lot of overhaul to be had with this program, but what's coming back is certainly recruitable collegiately. [player_tooltip player_id='487350' first='Emmerson' last='Gott'] and Alyssa Witte are two solid middles who will be leaned upon to slow down the relentless attacks coming their way. Miss Gott is the more college-ready player among the two, as she's currently on the college camp tour this summer for both D1 and D2 schools. Isabell Grady is a nice piece of the offense on the outside, even if she's a tad small. I'm guessing the libero will be senior [player_tooltip player_id='495378' first='Isabel' last='Adams'], as she's the top returning floor defender from a year ago. These four seniors will dictate how this season goes for WeBo, and their leadership will be key in inspiring younger players to continue the Stars' rise to regular volleyball success.

I hate to say it, but every public school eventually goes through it---this is more of a rebuild year and less of a reload year. Yes, Emmerson should get some solid looks from a bunch of four-year schools looking for long and lean middle help. This senior class will do everything in their power to lead both vocally and by example. Unfortunately, there's just not enough to sustain the success from last fall. I would treat the sectional as their state final, as a win over Benton Central this year in mid-October would be HUGE for the future of the program.
