This article is sponsored by Avoli

Prep Dig has teamed up with Avoli, the volleyball brand built specifically for female athletes, to present Committed — a spotlight series celebrating standout athletes at each 2025 Prep Dig Showcase. These athletes are chosen for their leadership, sportsmanship, and relentless work ethic — the same values Avoli champions on and off the court. Each featured athlete receives exclusive Avoli gear in addition to their own spotlight article. Learn more about Avoli and explore their performance-driven footwear at avoli.com.

-

In the last few years, the first weekend of August has become the perfect stage to see what the next class of talent is in the State of Michigan. Since beginning the Freshman Showcase, three summers ago, we have really got to get a good idea for what is to come.

This year was no different. But what was different about this summer was that there was another incentive to showing up and showing out. Being an Avoli Committed Athlete is being the player that embodies all of these particular traits that represent the Avoli brand. For the freshman, it was none other than [player_tooltip player_id='812023' first='Brynn' last='Johnson'].

If you haven't gotten to see [player_tooltip player_id='812023' first='Brynn' last='Johnson'] in action yet, you just wait! Because you will be seeing A LOT of her in the years to come.

[player_tooltip player_id='812023' first='Brynn' last='Johnson']

Early Summer Sneak Peak

While for the most part, the freshman showcase stands as a great way for myself and many other scouts from across the country to get their first look at the incoming talent. Luckily for me, while down in Florida for AAU Nationals, I was able to get a sneak peak of [player_tooltip player_id='812023' first='Brynn' last='Johnson'].

A part of ANOTHER exciting squad out of the FaR Out cannon, Johnson was one of many other stand outs. Many of her teammates on that team were also on tap for the Frosh Showcase. Every single one of them were in heavy consideration to achieve this honor.

With FaR Out, I got to watch Johnson in some of her biggest moments in her young career. Day 4, the road to the championship was on the line, it was go hard or go home. Johnson impressed me with her poise and demeanor on the court. When things got tight, Johnson didn't seem to get too high or too low on emotions. She also didn't shy away from the big kill in the big moment. These are just a few things I noticed early.

[player_tooltip player_id='812023' first='Brynn' last='Johnson']

Fast Forward to August

Fast forward to the Freshman Showcase. With her performance at nationals in the back of my head, I was definitely pleased with what I saw. But when I got really see her in action, in more of a practice, broken down scenario, I was really liking what I was seeing.

Johnson's play is the definition of practicing what you preach (or how you play). She walks onto every court with this sense of composure and comfort that many gravitate towards. Whether she was playing alongside her several teammates who made the trek with her or brand new players to her, Johnson was consistent. Consistent in her play, but more importantly consistent in the way she interacted with her peers.

As a player, she really can play in just about any position. I knew she could crank on the ball on the pin. I saw plenty of that in Orlando. But I really got to see just how sound Johnson was in her back court play. With great sense of the court, she bodes a lot of high level ball control. With only four middles in the gym, Johnson stepped into the middle for some blocker action. She really could do it all.

Just as an incoming rookie, Johnson as a volleyball player seems to be much more mature than what her age would suggest. From an aspect of her play, but also to her off-court attributes.

Looking to the Future

As we look ahead, things are looking so bright for this young prospect. As I stated earlier, Johnson is already so accustomed to performing in high pressure moments and winning! At AAU Nationals, she played a pivotal role in leading 14 Black to a Third Place finish in 14 Open. For her contributions, she was awarded 14 Open All-American honors.

Looking to the fall, Brynn will play for a consistently strong Division 2 program in Marshall. Marshall, even at its peak has always been a piece or two away from making huge runs into the post-season. Arguably, all of those missing pieces came from an offensive point of view. With a player like Brynn, coming in playing at such a high level already AND GROWING, Marshall could be a huge player as soon as this coming fall. For sure, we will be hearing more about Johnson and Marshall for years to come.

–

Be sure to TAG & follow @lshotvb on Instagram, Tik Tok and Twitter for all things volleyball!
