The prep season is quickly upon us in Minnesota. Captains practice starts today and next week will be the official start of the season! As we eagerly anticipate games to start up in the next couple of weeks, below are a few studs I anticipate will have big high school seasons in Minnesota Class A. While their class numbers may be small, these kids play big on the court!

Normann is a lefty senior attacker set to lead her Spring Grove team when they take the courts this fall. A major contributor to the varsity team since her sophomore year, Normann averaged 1.8/kills per set and 1.5/blocks per match last fall. Spring Grove will have big shoes to fill with the loss of several seniors, however, with pins like Normann on the floor, Spring Grove will find a way to compete with the best of the teams in Class A.

Quam is already a veteran on the Kenyan-Wanamingo squad and she is only an incoming freshman. Quam is one of those versatile players that can do a little bit of everything. She is an excellent defender, coming up with some huge digs. Last year, she averaged 4.2 digs/set. She is also a smart attacker that can find the open spots on the court, averaging an impressive 3.4 kills/set last year as an 8th grader. Quam can also run the show as a setter. It will be interesting to see what position or role she has this year. However, one thing is for certain, we will find her on the court court no matter what.

I watched Bowers a few times in the club season. She is power and energy combined to make an exceptional attacker. She has a tremendous vertical and will go up and over the block to generate kills for her team. Bowers has been seen on the varsity court since her 7th grade year. I cant wait to see the contribution she makes as she enters her 6th and final year on varsity.

One of the teams that I think might be overlooked going into the high school preseason is Lewiston Altura. Lewiston had an impressive run into the 2A playoffs last year. They are also returning a number of key players and are dropping down a class to 1A this fall where I anticipate they will upset a number of teams. At the helm of the offense for Lewiston will be senior setter and attacker, [player_tooltip player_id='522755' first='Lavin' last='Lejeune']. Lejeune is one of those versatile players that will fill a ton of roles this fall, depending on what their team needs. Regardless of which position she is in, Lejeune will no doubt be the leader for this impressive Lewiston squad.

UMD commit, Kiminski is probably one of the more impressive middles that I have seen come out of northern Minnesota for the class of 2026. She is pure power, extremely explosive, and honestly, just fun to watch. Kiminski is not only a terminal beast on the court, but she is a huge momentum changer. Teams competing against her and this seasoned Floodwood squad are going to have their hands full this fall.

Canby is positioned to make a deep playoff run this season. At the center of their offense, will be setter [player_tooltip player_id='499421' first='Emily' last='Nelson']. Nelson is a fun setter to watch as I have seen her play in both the prep and club circuits. She has a quick release and runs a fast tempo. She is also smart and knows how to get all of her hitters involved and contributing to the offense. She makes this team run efficiently and well balanced....thus, Canby is going to be hard to beat.
