About Emily

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I like the play at a fast pace with fast tempo on my sets. I enjoy reversing the flow and trying to be unpredictable.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I move on from the past and what can’t be changed. I like to take the game point by point. Even if I’m having a rough game I try to contribute by having fun and bringing energy.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

YAMS, Student Council, Yearbook Committee, Prom Committee, National Honor Society

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I pick up underclassmen for practices and try to keep them all included by encouraging and communicating with them. I always strive to be a good role model. I readily volunteer when teachers ask students to work at events.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

I tore my meniscus my freshman year. I was out for my freshman year of basketball. I worked really hard in therapy to be able to participate in my club season. This really challenged me because I didn’t know how long it would take to recover and I had to stay positive no matter what happened.

What type of college are you looking for?

I am looking for a college with a good education and located in or near a medium sized city. I would love to stay as close to home as possible. I am looking for coaches that care about me as an athlete and a person. I want a program that will make me work hard and teach me lots of lessons.

Nelson is a fun setter to watch as I have seen her play in both the prep and club circuits. She has a quick release and runs a fast tempo. She is also smart and knows how to get all of her hitters involved and contributing to the offense. She makes this team run efficiently and well balanced….thus, Canby is going to be hard to beat.

Nelson is an exciting prospect to watch and I was glad to see her team up with Brynn Kockelman Brynn Kockelman 5'5" | S/RS Canby | 2026 MN to run a 6-2 offense for Canby. Why is that exciting? Because then you get to see Nelson take a big lefty rip on the ball. She is a diverse player who makes an impact in all 6 rotations. Nelson is aggressive at the net and unafraid to go for a big kill or set against the flow. She kicked off the 2024 season by reaching the 1,000 assists milestone.
