So far we've discussed the intangibles of being coachable, having a strong game IQ, character, exhibiting leadership, mental toughness, and a love for the game. So what could be left? Well, time management and responsibility are definitely high on the list. Student-athletes have to balance a schedule of practices, games, travel, and academics. Coaches want to see that a recruit has the organizational skills and discipline to manage their time effectively and take ownership of their responsibilities. Coaches don't want to have to babysit off the court. Often, a strong academic record is a good indicator of this. Since I don't have GPAs or any way to know about this aspect with these athletes, we will have to move on and talk about athletes who showed off their stellar work ethic.   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Work Ethic</h2>   Coaches want to see that an athlete is willing to put in the time and effort to improve, both on and off the court. This includes hustling in and out of drills, doing the extra workouts, and being dedicated to getting better even when no one is watching. A strong work ethic demonstrates a player's passion and commitment.    Harvey was making huge plays and hustling everywhere to keep the ball alive. She is the type of player you have to hold back so they don't injure themselves trying to run through the wall to get the ball.     Srb was one of the first players to catch my attention with great hustle and relentless pursuit during one of the warm-up drills. Now, most would think warm-ups are done 50% but Srb was 100% from start to finish.     Ultsch demonstrated a strong work ethic throughout the showcase. Her approach was explosive and her swing was dynamic every time. She was not holding back, and I loved it!     Wargolet is a player you will consistently working hard in transition and taking big aggressive swings on the ball. She is quite relentless and dynamic as an attacker but also a defender.     Reed first caught my attention after I saw her take a swing and she clearly was not satisfied with it because I could see the gears turning and her calculating what she had to do differently. She responded with a nice high reach and consistently hit on top of the ball and sent it to the floor expeditiously after that.
