We're closing in on the end of the season and therefore, the end of the ultra competitive Motor City Power Series.

Weekend 5 was another one chock full of fun match ups. Despite a lot of the series' heaviest of hitters, we were still treated to a lot of fun volleyball on display from Clarkston to North Branch all the way down to D4 top ranked, Ubly. Aside from them, we got to get a taste of a lot of teams that may not get the most attention but are certainly prepping to make big noise come tournament time.

In case you didn't catch all of the fun in person, here's a peak at who the best of the best were at the finale weekend of the Motor City Power Series.

[player_tooltip player_id='240701' first='Giselle' last='Burlingame'] - Northville

Northville is easily one of the best defensive teams in the state. Led by [player_tooltip player_id='240701' first='Giselle' last='Burlingame'], the Mustangs continue to wow from behind the 3 meter line. This weekend proved to be another point made that Burlingame is one of the top liberos in the state. Maybe one of the smallest players out there, her defensive play is quite mighty and she heads up a multi-headed beast of littles in the back row.

[player_tooltip player_id='611100' first='Waverly' last='Hagen'] - Ubly

I am not sure you'll find a more dominant player out of Division 4 this year than [player_tooltip player_id='611100' first='Waverly' last='Hagen']. At the Power Series, Ubly seemed to be quite the fish out of water. They were one of two teams to not be a big school and yet, remained to play extremely competitive. A lot of that competitiveness amongst some stout attackers and defenses was due to Hagen's ability to step up in big moments. Still unorthodox in her approach, it almost aids her efforts in scoring at a high level.

[player_tooltip player_id='442613' first='Lily' last='Sukup'] - Goodrich

I haven't been able to get a look at this player since this past club season. Needless to say, [player_tooltip player_id='442613' first='Lily' last='Sukup'] has continued her ascension to be a real standout from the Flint area. She boasts a heavy touch on the ball and she's finding more range in her shot selection as well. Goodrich relies heavily upon Sukup and she takes the duties in stride.

[player_tooltip player_id='569772' first='Lauren' last='Sheldon'] - Stoney Creek

This player has been a real favorite of mine in the sophomore class for a little bit now. All of those reasons were on display this past Saturday. [player_tooltip player_id='569772' first='Lauren' last='Sheldon'] can do just about anything you ask of her. She's hitting on the pins for the high school season, but is traditionally a middle. For Stoney Creek, she's rocking out in a six rotation role and delivering on about every front.

[player_tooltip player_id='442994' first='Makayla' last='Naves'] - Davison

What really drives Davison past their competition is their relentless defense. All led by [player_tooltip player_id='442994' first='Makayla' last='Naves'], she does a lot of heavy lifting on the court. A defensive dynamo, Naves can cover quite a bit of ground and allows her team to stay in system more times than not. She also offers up tons of leadership on the court that bodes wonders for this Flint area team.

[player_tooltip player_id='775516' first='Elizabeth' last='Burke'] - St. Catherine

This St. Catherine team has the potential to make quite a bit of noise this coming November and for seasons to come. A big reason for that is the play of freshman libero [player_tooltip player_id='775516' first='Elizabeth' last='Burke']. In their lone weekend of Power Series play, Burke quickly cemented herself as a standout. Her defense was easily amongst the best in the gym and her energy was infectious.

Kate Jennings - St. Catherine

From the first contact to the last, if this team can find Kate Jennings at the net, a lot of good things are happening. In the middle blocker position, Jennings plays a key role for St. Catherine. She was batting at a very high rate throughout the day and was critical in some marquee wins against the likes of 2024 D1 Semifinalists, Fenton.

[player_tooltip player_id='644142' first='Ava' last='Kiernan'] - South Lyon East

It's a lot of fun to see the development of this player. At 6'2 and playing multiple roles on this team, [player_tooltip player_id='644142' first='Ava' last='Kiernan'] can't be taken off the court. The more she develops into the setting position, the more dangerous she is becoming. As an attacker, this was one of the best weekends for Kiernan at the net. She's beginning to develop an eye to score while she is setting as well, which makes SLE even more potent.

Hannah Thomas - North Branch

A lot of buzz comes around the Deshetsky duo at North Branch, but there is one bright, shining star here with Hannah Thomas, too. Senior middle blocker, playing six rotations and having a breakout season. Her ability to run plays in front of and behind the setter really opens the court for not only herself but her pin duo as well. All of which makes North Branch a stronger and stronger contender. Thomas could be exactly the X factor needed for the Broncos come a few weeks when their march to another title run begins.

[player_tooltip player_id='226913' first='Abbigayl' last='Sells'] - Lake Fenton

This weekend was the place to be if you were looking for top notch liberos in the gym. [player_tooltip player_id='226913' first='Abbigayl' last='Sells'] is very much amongst that list. One that will go down as one of the best for Lake Fenton, Sells is really out here doing the most. From her reception to her defense, Sells has to cover a lot of ground in order for the Blue Devils to succeed. She wears this role well and it allows her team to remain competitive in such a tough gym.

[player_tooltip player_id='226895' first='Jillian' last='Ferrill'] - Lake Fenton

Right alongside Sells, [player_tooltip player_id='226895' first='Jillian' last='Ferrill'] completes Lake Fenton's wicked 1-2 punch. This is another player who is looked upon to wear a lot of responsibilities on her shoulders for the success of the team. Ferrill is a six rotation outlet. No matter where she could be on the court, option one is always going to be finding Ferrill in the offense. And for good reason. When given the slightest of room, Ferrill can deliver time and time again.
