CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Westside Invitational on Oct. 11 at Jefferson High allowed for the scouting of top teams across multiple classifications. One of them was perennial title contender Dike-New Hartford. I witnessed the 2A Wolverines fighting tooth and nail with 5A championship-hopeful Centennial before coming up sport in the Gold Bracket.

After losing the better part of a year following knee surgery, Jensen has bounced back during the 2025 club and school-ball seasons in fine fashion. She operated as a key player for her Six Pack squad in the winter and spring, and has returned as a valuable leader and stabilizing force for Dike-New Hartford this fall. Working through six rotations, Jensen impacts matches from all locations. She's improved greatly in the back row in recent years and always has brought power to the pin. Opponents that underestimate the undersized outside hitter find out quickly that damage will be done if they don't bring the block in a big way. On top of all her natural gifts and volleyball skills, Jensen is a gamer whose teams win, in large part, because of her performance.

Kauten impressed me with her volleyball abilities when scouting Dike-New Hartford last season. It was great to get another look at her during the Westside Invite in Cedar Rapids on Oct. 11. The senior had lifted her level of play, becoming sharper and more consistent in all areas. Kauten is an intimidating presence in the middle of the net with her long arms making her play taller than her listed height of six feet. She shows an excellent feel for the block, reading the attack and getting in proper position. From there, she times her movement well and keeps the ball inbounds when returning it to sender. Kauten's swing continues evolving, and she stands out for ending points in quick sets. In general, she gets her swing through the hitting zone quickly, before the defense can react.

Varney impressed me when scouting Dike-New Hartford at a Mount Vernon tournament last season. Operating as a freshman libero on one of the state premier programs should have garnered everyone's attention. Varney has built on that strong ninth-grade campaign and become more consistent, as she showed during another in-person scout at the Westside Invite in Cedar Rapids on Oct. 11, 2025. The sophomore moves well laterally and sharp reflexes help her deal with pace coming at her, whether it be in serve-receive or when defending the back row. Varney obtains a good read on the attack and finds herself properly positioned more often than not. With two more years of school ball remaining, Varney certainly is a prospect to watch moving forward.

Asche got my attention when I scouted Dike-New Hartford at a Mount Vernon tournament last season. The freshman featured a mature game beyond her years. Fast forward to another in-person scout at the Westside Invite in Cedar Rapids on Oct. 11, 2025, Asche proved she didn't rest on her laurels. The sophomore stood out on one of the state's top Class 2A squads. Asche makes up for not having traditional height on the outside by utilizing explosive athleticism and impressive lift on her vertical leap. Technically sound, she generates power in her swing and locates holes in the defense. Asche is a six-rotation contributor already, ranking among the Wolverine leaders in kills and digs.

Reicks was working as Dike-New Hartford's second middle when I watched it during the Westside Invite in Cedar Rapids on Oct. 11, 2025. She made sure play stayed consistently productive in that location of the net. Reicks doesn't possess the physical traits of the prototype for her position, which is height and long arms. She's not short with short arms, by any means, but Reicks succeeds with explosive athleticism and agility, and by being technically sound and understanding her assignments. It's a big reason why she was named a captain this season as a junior. Reicks still has room to grow in stature and consistency, which makes her an interesting prospect for colleges to monitor.

I wrote about Sager in June after watching her at the LOVB Showcase in Coralville. She stood out as a bouncy outside hitter with power and potential for more. When I scouted her again during the Westside Invite in Cedar Rapids on Oct. 11, Sager was filling an important role for Dike-New Hartford as a two-way right-side hitter rounding out one of the best lineups in Class 2A. Sager gets excellent lift on her vertical leap and generates velocity with her swing, which flies through the hitting zone. She's figuring out how to read defenses and direct her attack into openings. Sager also shows a good feel for throwing up the block and reading where the offense is choosing to attack.
