Top 4A High School Setters Running Offenses

In Colorado's highly competitive high school volleyball scene, it's easy to get caught up in the incredible talent at the 5A level. But 4A volleyball is home to some of the most technically sound, battle-tested athletes in the state. At the center of every successful 4A program is a setter, the strategic leader who dictates tempo, connects the offense, and keeps teammates in rhythm. While big swings and blocks often fill the highlight reels, it's the setters who make those moments possible. Across 4A this season, a wave of standout setters has emerged, combining court awareness, precision, and leadership to elevate their teams into playoff contention. As the regular season winds down and the postseason picture sharpens, these setters are proving they're not just running plays...they're running the show.    The youngest player on our list, sophomore Kenley Rudiger is currently leading all of 4A volleyball in assists with 376 on the season, averaging about 8.5 assists per set. A common stigma towards setters is that they don't play defense, but don't lump Rudiger into that crowd. A libero/DS for her club team, Rudiger has proven that she is not someone to hit at on her high school squad. She's racked up 60 digs on the season averaging about 1.4 digs per set. Rudiger is also contributing to her teams success from the service line with 33 aces on the season.     Senior Cameron Romero has 373 assists on the season and it's clear that she is the heartbeat and leader of her Steamboat squad. Watching Romero run her offense, it's clear to see there's never a moment that she doesn't have a focus and intensity to compete and win. While Romero may not be the largest or flashiest setter in Colorado, her focus and discipline allows her to do what setters do best...set up their hitters.     Junior setter Jaya Hickey is one of the most well rounded setters in 4A, despite being a little bit undersized. Hickey does a good job of being disciplined as a blocker in the front row, and then defending in the back court when necessary. Offensively, Hickey has a good sense of the opposing block and distributing her offense across the net. Mountain View boasts some effective slide runners out of the middles, which is also a huge part of Hickey's offense. Both skills are hard to train in setters and it seems to come pretty naturally for Hickey.     Lefty setter, [player_tooltip player_id='734479' first='Libby' last='Wilson'] is a treat to watch. Wilson might be one of the most athletically gifted setters on this list. Despite only being listed at 5'5", she is a force in the front row, as a blocker and attacker. Her ability to dish out clean sets by jump setting also sets her apart from many others who play the position. With fast feet, and even faster hands, she's an incredibly dynamic setter who runs an intelligent offense, knowing how to pull blockers, reverse the flow, and when to just set the hot hitter. All of these attributes together make her one of the most impressive setters in all of 4A...and maybe even all of Colorado.     Natalie Alfonso may not be the fastest, or the tallest, or the most athletic player on the court, but man is she one of the smartest. Alfonso has fantastic court vision and decision making skills and that allows her to put her hitters in great positions to score...evident of her 358 assists on the season. Alfonso also boats 22 aces, 60 digs, and 6 solo blocks on the season. Her ability to read the game in all aspects has made her one of the strongest assets for Pueblo Central and in 4A.
