Despite one of the toughest routes to the championship in all of Michigan, regardless of Division. Country Day was not to be denied their second straight state championship. They had to go through the ringer that included North Branch, Lake Fenton and Grand Rapids Christian just to get to this stage. Once there, there was no one else going to get into their way.

On the other side of the bracket, it featured a plethora of firsts. Flat Rock had never won a regional title in program history. They managed to make their way through to an unprecedented championship match. It was quite incredible to see a team from an area that doesn't get enough love make such noise in the tournament.

It was quite the run for all four of these teams and they were led by the standout play from these several stars in Division 2.

OH - [player_tooltip player_id='446702' first='Elise' last='Hiemstra']

Last year saw [player_tooltip player_id='446702' first='Elise' last='Hiemstra'] have quite the breakout year for DCD. As a catalyst to their first ever championship, this year, it was Hiemstra acting as the driving force. It was incredible to see just how much Hiemstra can lead her team. When in the toughest moments against the likes of North Branch and Grand Rapids Christian, it was Hiemstra's scoring abilities that was able to propel the jackets onward. In a long line of elite level players to come out of this program, Hiemstra has done what no one else has.

OH - [player_tooltip player_id='839917' first='Sarah' last='Giroux']

It was a historic year for this down river team. For years, they have had the pieces to do big things, but just fall short. This year, it was the breakout of [player_tooltip player_id='839917' first='Sarah' last='Giroux'] that showed to be just what the Rams needed to push past the hump. So much so, Giroux was able to lead Flat Rock to not only their first regional championship, but first ever state title match. Between the semifinals and finals, Giroux logged 45 kills and 33 digs.

MB - [player_tooltip player_id='881552' first='Mya' last='McKinnon']

The emergence of [player_tooltip player_id='881552' first='Mya' last='McKinnon'] this fall has been a true revelation for this powerhouse program. Not too long ago, Grand Rapids Christian had full control over the Division 2 space. No one could touch the Eagles when they went on to win three state titles and four straight final fours. If McKinnon keeps this up, we are in for more of that. In a disappointing end to the run, she still was one of the brightest stars on the court. With 12 kills, hitting over .450, and 8 blocks, [player_tooltip player_id='881552' first='Mya' last='McKinnon'] is in the makings to be the next superstar out of this program.

MB - [player_tooltip player_id='450415' first='Leah' last='Green']

[player_tooltip player_id='450415' first='Leah' last='Green'] may not be the flashiest player on the court for Country Day, but she sure is maybe one of the most vital to their success. There is seemingly nothing that this one can't do. Green is everything you could want in a middle blocker. She scores well and she is slowing down the ball at the net. But it's her sheer athleticism that shines when she steps into the back court and can rival that of some of the elite six rotation outsides on tap. In the finals weekend, Green had 9 kills, 12 digs and 10 blocks.

S - [player_tooltip player_id='574175' first='Payton' last='Woodruff']

Despite losing their key attacker next season, as long as DCD has [player_tooltip player_id='574175' first='Payton' last='Woodruff'] running the offense, they will be back for more. Despite only being a sophomore, seeing Woodruff's tenacity at such a young age is a lot of fun to see. Even on the biggest of stages, no moment seems too big to rattle this setter. This past weekend saw Country Day struggle immensely in the serve and pass department, something one wouldn't attribute to a championship winning results. Well, that just goes to show just how much of an impact Woodruff has on the game to make that difference. She would finish the weekend with 70 assists and 10 digs.

S - [player_tooltip player_id='443001' first='Zoe' last='Ryan']

The transfer of [player_tooltip player_id='443001' first='Zoe' last='Ryan'] may have been the best thing to have ever happened to this Flat Rock program. Ryan is an all out hustler on the court. She plays with a lot of grit and can do just about anything you need her to do. Her ability to keep the Rams offense running at a consistent pace and spread the love around allowed for her top scorers to shine the brightest. Ryan added 76 assists and 15 digs to her stat sheet in the finals.

L - [player_tooltip player_id='801830' first='Grace' last='Evans']

Fremont is a team that not many would've thought to have given teams as much fits as they did throughout the post season. But when you take a look at [player_tooltip player_id='801830' first='Grace' last='Evans'] in the back court and her play. Evans is one the scrappiest defenders you could find in all of Battle Creek, no ball was safe with her insight. She led all defenders on the weekend with 24 digs.
