There were eight highly competitive courts at the first session of the Prep Dig Exposure Tour. Despite a snowstorm outside, the gym was packed with energy, positivity, and noise. Leading the charge was the class of 2030 DS/Libero [player_tooltip player_id='879468' first='Avery' last='Gehring']. Despite being one of the youngest in the gym, Avery made an impact in every possible way. Avery plays for [program_tooltip program_id='431479' first='Wisconsin' last='Juniors'] 14-1 and is sure to be a massive leader on that team as well. She was a fearless athlete who threw herself into every drill with confidence and a willingness to learn.

Avery's leadership was evident from early on. Session 1 of the Exposure Tour included athletes from the classes of 2028, 2029, and 2030. Every time there was a huddle, Avery spoke up and was the one to break it down. She naturally stepped into that role, whether it was in the large group of nearly 150 athletes or in the small groups on her court. She never hesitated to step up in both small and big ways as a leader. Whether it was communicating between plays, hustling to the next court, or making quick adjustments to new drills or rules, Avery was one of the first to pick everything up and was building others up along the way.

One thing that impressed me was the spark of energy she took with her wherever she went. Avery's court always seemed like it had an extra boost. Her communication and leadership built up others around her. Avery had an incredibly positive presence, and whoever was on the court with her took it upon themselves to elevate their communication and leadership as well.

Avery did so many little things to show great sportsmanship. A lot of this loops into leadership, but she consistently went the extra mile to ensure every person she was on the court with felt valued. I am sure I only saw a portion of the amazing actions she took throughout the two-hour event, but everything I saw truly impressed me. It showed maturity and insight at a level that many high schoolers struggle to reach.

I loved that Avery would pick someone on her team after almost every play, give them a high five, and say something positive about their contribution. Whether it was effort, communication, or skill-based, she never failed to find a positive thing. One time, I saw her sprint across the court to her setter to tell her she had a great set, then make it back in serve receive before the next ball came over. Her sportsmanship was genuine and never missed a beat.

Avery really defined having a relentless work ethic. She went after every ball, had great mental and physical endurance, and was always ready for whatever came next. Libero can be such a tough position because you are served and hit at continuously with very little chance for redemption, but Avery used her teammates' successes to stay energized on the court.

Her relentless work ethic also paid off on several occasions when she made big hustle plays. Avery's court awareness, high volleyball IQ, and strong fundamentals, even in scramble plays, prove the amount of time she has put in the gym over the years.

A huge congratulations to Avery for being our Avoli Committed Athlete for the Exposure Tour for Session 1! She truly embodied leadership, sportsmanship, and a relentless work ethic from start to finish!
