Avery was the fire on the court that this event needed. She talked constantly about what was happening on the court while also cheering on those around her. Her excitement was contagious. Not only was her talk positive, but her pursuit was insane. Every ball on her side of the court had atleast a touch from her. It was awesome to see her huge amounts of hustle and crazy plays.

The first thing I noticed in Avery Gehring Avery Gehring 5'6" | DS/L Burlington | 2030 WI was her communication. She was constantly talking, bringing energy to the court whether she’s serving, serve receiving, or passing. She is always able to say something and contribute in a positive way. Her passing skills match her energy where she knows how to create space between her platform and her body. She also knows how to take pace off a hard driven ball. Very exciting day for Gehring who will be a freshman at Burlington High School and plays club at Wisconsin Juniors . 

Gehring first caught my attention with her hustle and ability to read the play of the ball. I’m fairly certain she knew where they were going to send the ball before they had even decided. Gehring was constantly talking through the play and encouraging those around her. Most impressive was her ability to rally those on her court to help shag balls before ever needing to be asked. She isn’t afraid to get others involved, and they naturally tend to follow her.

Avery showed off her fearless defensive style at the Up Next Showcase. She isn’t afraid to throw her body on the floor for a ball, and her ability to keep rallies alive was unmatched 🙌. What stood out most was her court communication—she’s vocal, directs traffic, and brings confidence to the back row. Add in her clean first touch in serve-receive and her knack for covering tips, and Avery is the kind of DS/L every team wants on the floor. 💪
